Need some sound advice of advantages & disadvantages between a deckover trailer & a standard car hauler trailer.

Thanks

Have both & both have the uses.

Perfect opportunity for some company to make a trailer with adjustable axle/suspension so you can have either a car hauler or deckover trailer as needed.

There is a lot of air bag suspension equipment out there that could do it.

Apply something to a trailer, like was done to this truck:

I have a car hauler and I like the easy loading of my tractor. I usually back it into a small ditch or some other depression and load and unload my tractor without using the ramps.
I would like to easy loading and solid deck of a deckover for hauling other items.
There is a tilt bed deckover at a trailer sales place I drive by that looks really good but I know if I stop I will just get sticker shock.
Car haulers are cheaper than deckovers.

I have and use both. The car hauler is nice for the lower height if you're hand loading, but the real question comes down to what do you plan on doing with the trailer?

For what I haul, the deckover wins, but if you haul something different, maybe the carhauler wins.

I have both but the one I really need usually has a load of something on it. The little back yard Barns are easy to move with a deckover. Bought two 24 ft truck boxes and had them brought to me on a larger rollback. My car trailer was made in 82 and I used gas station lifts-back when they had two steel ramps on one post. Ran it that way until I came across some cheap alumnium Diamond plate to cover the middle. You can be trailer poor very quickly.

Car haulers carry 10-15% of their weight on the truck. Deckovers carry 15-20%. Ask yourself what kind of truck you have and how much weight you want to tow and you may answer your own question.

I have both, an old car hauler bumper hitch, and deck over gooseneck.

It used to be difficult to get the tractor on the car hauler since I had about 2" of total space to the fenders. When I got bigger equipment, I bought the deck over gooseneck. Heavy loads tow much better with the gooseneck.

It's also wonderful when I get hay and they set it directly on the trailer without having to load it manually :)

The carhauler doesn't get much use any more. I probably should get rid of it.

They both have uses, BUT I prefer not to have to work around fenders that get banged up so easily. That's why my trailer deck is level with the top of the tires and the fenders are only 2 inches above the deck, they are flat and heavy enough to drive on and tie down to but still low enough I can get at pallets or lumber with the forks.
