I'm glad to read that. I suspect it is some sort of interlock being switched prematurely. When I press on the brake, the diff lock goes down too. I believe that the brakes lock the diff too. I know there is an interlock for the brake/start system. Perhaps there is some interference in there somewhere. I'll have to look around that area.

It was a nice day today, so I got it washed up for more photos. The snow melted some and this time it went up that hill without the diff lock.

To me, the frame seems a bit thin. Granted, there are areas where it is doubled up and re-inforced, but not the entire length. I am wondering how this compares to the previous X595, or 455 frames. Anyone care to measure theirs? Mine measures 0.184" including finish where this hitch (measuring 0.312") attaches.

My X595 measures about .190 (maybe the paint jobs were a little thicker back in the day!). I would have sworn it was thicker, but I usually have a tractor trunk on, so I guess I never noticed. I've never had any problems, but I am just about to add a rear PTO and 3 point hitch for a box blade and rotary cutter, so I guess I'll find out if it is thick enough...

I guess that makes them at least a 7 gauge steel frame or better. Not bad for a mower. Seems to be a big difference from the 2520 though.

The X700 series is basically a big riding lawn mower and as such I imagine they want them to be fairly light.

A very simple test is to bypass the seat switch with a couple of jumpers. Very possible the seat switch is intermittent (goes open) killing the engine.

Then again, being a new JD, the dealer should be hopping all over it making it right.

Skidoo,

The frames are not as think as the frames on the tractors we use, but the key here is the frame design. The X series tractors use essentially a unit body design frame which has several designed reinforcement points. It is plehty strong. In my opinion, it likely is as strong, if not stronger, than a 2305 frame.

*Seems to be a big difference from the 2520 though.
*Nothing odd about that.
That's one of the differences between a sub compact/compact and a garden tractor.
They are built heaver than garden tractors.
The x700s are garden tractors but the 2520 is a compact.

Garden tractors are not as heavy duty as compacts and sub compacts it's just that simple.
I would not expect any garden tractor to be the same as a compact or sub compact.
I would not expect a Kubota garden tractor to measure up to a JD 2305.
Nor would I expect a JD X series garden tractor to measure up to a BX kubota.
