Then too I've seen post by people who seem to think they have to have an All Wheel Steer tractor because tractors without AWS steer like the Turning radius of A semi truck with trailer.:D
== L B ==

I think you may be missing the a main point. I have not yet used an AWS model, so take my opinion as such. But, I did some checking and discovered that the AWS X534 for example, has a larger turning radius than the X540, X520, X340, X740 (all four are 2WS) and all of the LA mowers (LA100 through LA150 models). The point is that even though its turning radius may be larger, it does have a smaller uncut circle than all of these 2 wheel steer models.

Model TR UCCR
X540 22 24
X520 22 24
X340 16 18
X740 25 22
LA100 18 20
LA110 18 20
LA120 18 20
LA130 18 25
LA140 18 25
LA150 18 25

X534 27 13

X7482WD 28 33
X7484WD 48.5 43

X749 AWD 21 6

I was looking at the X748 for its 4WD capability for slopes. The X749 came along with the tighter turn radius and uncut circle and that made the difference for me. I have been using a Toro with a turn radius of about 36" and uncut circle near that. I did not like that much but dealt with it. I am looking forward to the tighter maneuverability and AWD traction of the X749. For that, it is worth the extra $$ to me...

Skidoo,

I am happy to hear that your machine is coming in. I would like, for one, to see some pictures of your new machine. LB, there is no conspiracy trying to sell X series JD machinery for more than its worth. If anything lawn and garden is worth $10,000, it would be an X series tractor. It was easily the finest piece of lawn and garden machinery I have owned or operated. I needed something a little bigger and thus went with a true compact tractor. I can say that without my needs changing, I would still happily own my X595.

My new X749 is in and will be delivered on Monday! :)

Did you get a snowblower with it? I am very interested in your "first drive" review.

Nothing but the 62" mower deck. No blower, No rear pto, nor 3PH options. I really only need (want) it for mowing. I have the 2520 for everything else. I'll get pictures next week of them next to each other.

2* You mean the x749 don't come standard with a 3 point hitch or a rear PTO?

My understanding is that these are options. I don't care. I don't need them for its planned use, especially since I also have a 2520 for the implements that need it. If it was to be the only tractor I had, it would certainly be a must have.

1* I can inderstand that but I could not see that kind of money for just a mower to mow 15 to 20% of my yard considering I have a BX23 with a 60'' mmm that mows the other 80 to 85%.
I also wanted a tractor that I could leave a tiller and a front blade on all the time.
To accomplish My 2 Goals required 2 tractors with 3 point hitches and rear PTOs.
$26000 for 2 JDx749s was just out of the question.
The way it worked out for me is I was able to get 2 BX1500s both having 3 point hitches and rear PTOs for $13000.
As a side note the BX1500 for mowing is way way overkill for the CC GT2554 garden tractor it replaced.
Like wise the other BX1500 that replaced the 1966 Bloens with a front blade and the 1967 Bolens with a tiller is way way over kill for the tasks I was using the Bolens tractors for.
Your're pleased with your choice and I'm delighted with my decision and that's great because that's 2 happy campers.
Have fun with the new tractor tomorrow on the big delivery day!!

pto option is ~$750
3ph option is ~$500
I agree that, if you already have a tractor to do that kind of work, and unless you're looking for resale they are wasted money.
