I am seriously considering this X749. Which would be better, one with the 54" deck or the 62" deck? Pros/Cons of each?

As with anything else, it depends. If you don't need to fit into any areas narrower than the 62" deck, then go for the big one. I was very surprised when I switched from a 48" deck to a 60" - I thought the extra width would be what reduced my mowing time. It does, but the smaller "uncut circle" and the ease of trimming along borders made more of a difference.

Low volume can causes higher prices :
In that case high quality and superior components may not be there..

This is probably the case. The garden tractor market has fallen flat on its face. The cost of tooling and running an assembly today has got to be 10x what it was just a few years ago.

Normally you know what you are talking about but this time you are just plain wrong. The GR Series compares to the 300 series Deere models not the 700 series, that's like saying a Prius compares to a Avalon!!

Don't know much about the deere line, but I could not find any water cooled diesels in the 300 series on the deer website, just third pary air cooled engines.

In the 1970's most manufacturers made 2 or 3 series of garden tractors with 2 or 3 models in each series. Now there are probably three times as many choices and engine choices galor to pick from. It really has become a niche market with a full range of machines from simple grass cutters to full out super compact utility tractors with abilities to do excavation work. Homeowner "A" can be just as happy with his $3000 machine as homeowner "B" is with his $15,000 machine if each tractor does the tasks the owners have. I look at it as the market catering to the customer's needs. It's a buyer's market.

I can see your point here but 15000 is still to much money for a 10000 garden tractor in my book.;)

Then too I've seen post by people who seem to think they have to have an All Wheel Steer tractor because tractors without AWS steer like the Turning radius of A semi truck with trailer.:D

I can't understand why anyone would by a Corvette or Porche when you can get 2 or more perfectly good pickup trucks for the same money, but I can appreciate the folks that may think differently than me about their transportation "needs" (no one really NEEDS a Porche, it's a WANT not a need.) And any good manufacturer will cater to their customer's needs AND wants, which is why Ford builds and sells tiny commuter cars AND Lincolns. Same with GM and same with the tractor market.

But you don't pay for a Lincoln and get a Mercury from Ford.
In my estimation the X700 JDs are Mercurys being sold at Lincoln prices.

It would be very helpful if you could provide some objective empirical data to support your estimations on how and why a Deere X700 is not worth the money, because you post it so often in so many threads. If it is just your subjective views, then please state that. You explain why you "feel" as though the X700s are overpriced but never actually support your claims with any factual information, which would really help out the forum. Do some research and let us know.

X700 Ultimate Tractor
List Price: $9,499.00

Not too bad, a $15,000 tractor for under $10,000. Now that's a bargain, and worth buying two of them at that price. I'm sure the dealer would give a good discount too.

LB, I think it was you and only you who have posted, several times, this observation regarding the semi-trailer turning radius. If I stand to be corrected, please provide the link
