Did my first service on my F2690 yesterday. Changed engine oil and engine and hyd filter. Used the same strap wrench that gets tighter on filters as you turn one way or the other and it kept slipping. I had purchased a filter removal wrench some months ago for removing filters on Polaris ATV which are hidden up inside the bottom of the machine. The wrench is spring loaded and you open to fit over end of filter and then it tightens as you turn to remove and has a 1/4" drive for using a 1/4" wrench/ratchet. I used an adapter and used my 1/2" ratchet and easy peasy removal. It does not go the other way for installing so did hand and strap wrench a bit for final install tightening.
Now comes that dreaded or both dreaded oil pan bolts that seem welded on. No luck with 15mm ( I think or 5/8) socket 1/2" drive then remembered my most recent purchase of a Ryobi battery impact wrench 1/2" drive. First use and it removed that bolt almost as soon as I pushed the go button!!!!! Yep, I have a couple of air impact wrenches and the compressor is right there to turn on and wait till it fills to 145psi but that battery impact wrench I bought for going away from the garage removals needed using/trying. Now ready for servicing the new MX5400 when another 46 hours is put on it. :)
This is the filter removal tool I used which fit over the Kubota engine oil filter and F2690 hyd filter. Amazon.com: Lisle 636 Oil Filter Tool: Automotive

Well, where's the 'fun' in that?

Where is the tale of epic struggle between the humble tractor owner and the insidious corporate practice of painting filters in situ, then over tightening drain-bolts to the point that the heads are stripped?

Where, I ask you!?

:)

The first engine oil/hydraulic oil filter(s) change on the M6040 went very well. I remembered the problems I had with my first tractor. Took my box cutter knife and cut the paint around all the filters at the filter/engine interface. They came off easy with a strap wrench.

Just did the 1st service on kubota rtv. Trans plug was so tight I had to use breaker bar with pipe extension. Also did the tractor and found filters and plugs to be way too tight.....imho.

Johnthomas, I also found that my battery powered impact actually has more punch than my air powered IR impact. I hate to say it, but my IR impact cost me a little over $700. The battery powered impact, which advertises 1200 pounds torque max, cost me less than $200. My oh my, have things changed since I bought the IR back in the '80s.

Glad it went well! The 200 and 400 hour service went smooth on my current tractor, but not so much on the previous L3410.
After struggling in my youth with breaker bars, mauls, etc I ended up with a collection of air and electric impact tools.

I used a similar wrench to remove the filter on my Viper, it worked perfectly.

What if we loosened the filters and plugs when the tractor was new and then tightened back up? Suppose they would be easier to loosen before being run for 50 hours?

I’d given up on my rtv filter. Drove it around to get things up to temp, the filter came off but, man it was toooooooo tight!
