The synthetic Rotella T 5W-40 would be fine for 100 hour change outs on the L-39.

BTW, metallo-sulfated ash is a result of the additive package and it ends up building up on piston crown combustion chamber, rings, valves, etc. The lower the ash the better in the long run.

The Group III Shell Rotella is not the best available, but it certainly is fine for a non-turbocharged three cylinder IDI diesel as long as you change it and the filter out every 100 hrs.....

And why would a tractror need CI rated oil? This rating is for emissions.

I agree with Skypup. Rotella or most any 5w-40 diesel rated oil will be just fine for your tractor. We have several tractors and changing according to mfg. recommendations noticed no difference in all with wear patterns. Our newer tractors go 250 and 400 hours in between oil changes. We don't even use synthetic anymore but just regular Rotella. The oil at changes is still showing fine but the problem with tractors is keeping the oil clean. Even with the best filters if you are working your tractor in dusty, dirty conditions your oil is going to get dirty.

Can you support this claim?

As you know, we've been down this road before. All the documentation is hardcopy. Either you, or others, believe what doc is saying or you don't. Others also post numbers from their oil analysis, no one asks for a scan of the hardcopy results. Even then, we'd be trusting that the information is really from oil W, run through engine X, for Y hours or Z miles.

It doesn't need CI-4 oil. But that is what is available on the shelves and CI-4 is backwards compatible to all but those oils rated for 2-cycle diesels. Aren't the synthetics you recommend CI-4?

So the only Rotella I could find is 10W-30. Does anybody see a problem with 30 weight? I figure I'll put the next hundred hours on before January.

Without seeing the oil tests, I do not buy it. And yes I have been down this road before since the reason for not doing it is pretty bad.

I have asked repeatedly for this (along with another user) and someone can take a few minutes and post the numbers; to support his claim.

The "documentation is hardcopy" is a pretty poor reason not to take 5 minutes and post it.

I think you where the one that posted several times to show proof on a subject I made on a thread; and I am doing the same thing here. Just show the data to support your claim. Without anything to back it up, it is meaningless.

Per TBN rule #3, you would think a user would want to support his material.

Correct they are but I do not put much faith in them either nor promote it either. I would rather go for oils that conform to ILSAC, ACEA, MB, Volvo etc. These are harder spec to pass.

I tend to trust people. Afterall, why would they come on here and lie?

I don't recall doing this, but if you say I did, then I did. Sorry.
