Maybe we should have a survey ... I'll start: I'd like to see other posters as forthcoming with data as gsxr is if specific claims are being made.

While others argue oil analysis and honesty issues, I will try to answer your question. 10w-30 would be the preferred weight for winter use, in my opinion. You should consider yourself lucky to find Rotella 10w-30. I knew they made it but could never find any. That is exactly what I would put in my tractor if only I could buy any.

Good luck and I hope it happens too. But it will be fair and few between I think.

Not going against TBN Forum rule #5 either.

How can 10w-40 be a winter oil???

I would say in general, look at the pumping temp and make the call. The weights for me, do not mean anything.

Remain calm...all is well.

The man said 10w-30, not 10w-40.

OK. So that's good to hear. Nobody else answered the question so I figure I'm good to go with the 30. Thanks!

Just saying look at the pour and pumping and not the weights per say.

You can have a synthetic oil go good till -30 F (pumping) while a dino would never work here.

I blend or a 100% synthtic oil would be his best bet.

I would look at they 30 weight and the max temp you see. Then I would add about 5 more degress to that temp.

Then look at the oils that are within your limits. I know in my area we could see -15 F no problem. What that means is that the oil better have a pour of at least -35 below. A -40 would be better and so on.

You could save a bunch a time if you set up an automated robo reply to every post in the oil forum. You wouldn't have to spend hours monitoring the oil forum anymore and your fingers wouldn't hurt from typing the same thing over and over. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Just trying to help you out so you'll have more time on your hands.

I do not spend hours monitoring this forum, nor care too. I am spending less and less time since I see the same questions time and time again.

What this forum should have is a thread on the start (top) that states use the search function before posting any questions. Or have a quick & dirty thing on oils. Save about 50% of the posts. I have posted on API standards, delo, rotella, long drain, engine coolant, etc more times then many can count. Again the search function is a great tool when used.

I have even commented on delo and even posted un-tests on it about a dozen times within the past 1.5 years.

But you are right I keep saying the same thing over and over. Answering the same questions and asking the same question(s) to some.

I should just stop and state was I was doing for sometime, " Use the search function since these questions have been answered."
