As andy stated, the net is full of stuff that is a total joke.

Now if someone posts something to support there "joke" they at least they are showing their bunny trail on HOW they came up with their answer.

Also I do not think everyone lies, but I like to see the documention on how they came up with there statmente before I buy the answer.

There ya go.

In all seriousness.. I wouldn't think twice about taking 5 minutes to snap a pic of my tractor.. xfer it to the pc then upload and post it.. but I don't think I'd care to scan / convert/resize a oil test and post it..

I look at it like this.. hypothetically... If someone thinks I'm giving them false numbers.. what's to keep me from doctoring the oil test?

Hypothetically that is.. cause I havn't run any oil tests on my personal equipment.. just change it per hours / yearly..whatever comes first.. unless it gets dirty looking.. etc... and for the the big stuff at work.. that's just looking for fuel / water/coolant and bearing metals... not oil life specifically... course it's all dino oil goin into those big machines loader.. pans.. backhoe.. etc.. by the barrel...

On a tangent... how about those poor people in pakistan... You know they are in a 'fix' when Isreal and india offer them aid... ok.. solemn moment over... everybody back into the ring (ding! ding!) /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

hey guys, lets all chill out here!!! afterall, we all like tractors, right?

As soundguy said, it's ok to bowout of a post if need be, i saw him do it in yanmar (sorry yanmar brother! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif )

As far as the other stuff, lets take it offline. It's gone totally off subject from the original posters' questions and concerns. It's denegrated, if you will. I'd expect that the moderators would have stopped this, proactively and privately instead of baiting and publicly. Honestly, if you are a moderator and push around a poster, how is that helping.

From my propsective, Mike in MA (Hey man, any baby yet??!?) is a very factual numbers kinda engineer. I can appreciate that. cowboydoc (for lack of another person), states a lot of stuff about performance and numbers etc but most of that is not transferrable to the average tractor users, right? How many of us own combines? In my little setup of a 16 - 20 HP tractors, in wet areas, how does your usage without data matter to me?!?

Anyway guys, again, we have gone astray(SP?).

Jim, is delo400 good for you? don' t think so. I lived in Northfield VT for 4+ years (guess where my eng degree is from, $5bux for ya) and it gets matha good cold there. I'd do 15w-40 with synthetic and 10w-30 reg and all with block heater. I remember spitting in the cold in VT and having it freeze before hitting the ground, now that's darn right cold!!! Note: no data here, just real world experience!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Alright, lets be friendS!!!! bye now -art

That's right Chris. In the whole grand scheme of life, it doesn't really matter if everyone uses the "correct oil" or not... there are plenty of more pressing issues in the world to deal with than worrying about oil test results.

Mike, how's the new baby?

I'm sure you'll soon find out that being around the baby is more important than converting the last five "non-Amsoil" TBN members.

Enjoy! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Could be but a little know-how on oil and knowledge & that is very very unlikely to happen. I also posted something to MikePA that was almost the same thing.

( Hypothetically that is.. cause I havn't run any oil tests on my personal equipment.. just change it per hours / yearly..whatever comes first.. unless it gets dirty looking.. etc... and for the the big stuff at work.. that's just looking for fuel / water/coolant and bearing metals... not oil life specifically... course it's all dino oil goin into those big machines loader.. pans.. backhoe.. etc.. by the barrel... )

So you do not run oil tests on your stuff, but if it looks dirty??? So now you can tell how clean or the protecting factor of the oil just buy looking? As you posted above “That's weak...” But then again you should be part of “The Incredibles” next movie. With your superpowers you can scan oils to help protect the better good of man kind!

Also as I have stated many time, I do not do oil tests solely for oil longevity.

baby is doing fine and at times when he is sleeping or feeding, what am I going to do???? So I go on the PC...Thanks for asking though..I have 3 weeks off (paid) so I have plenty of time.

I do not get the last sentence you stated since I really could careless on Amsoil. This is not even Amsoil related.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Excuse me.. that happens to be right out of my tractor manuals thank you very much.. remember I run those old things.. with 15% partial flow oil filter systems...when the oil looks dark on the dipstick.. you change it... that's been good enough on that old iron for 50+ years...

( But then again you should be part of “The Incredibles” next movie. With your superpowers you can scan oils to help protect the better good of man kind )

Man.. have you got a lot of anger built up or something?

And I was just posting what I did.. not giving advice to others on their oil changes.

There's more to things than oil numbers.. As I stated.. most of my tractors started life on non detergent oil.. or re-filtered oil / re-refined oil.. or simply used drainings from the farmers auto... And the tractor was happy to get that. When your main bearings wore in a bit.. some people didn't even change them.. they shimmed them.

Hyd systems didn't even use filters.. sucked straight from thebottom of the common sump on those old fords with the scotch yoke belly pumps... My 2n from 46 has, as far as I can determine.. never been rebuilt or had it's pump out... not bad for a low/no filter system...

Like i said.. more to everything that what oil you are using...

Numbers may be hard to argue with.. but it;s kinda hard to 'down' a plain off the shelf oil, when you can see just how 'bad' lube conditions were on tractors 50-60 years ago... and these units are still running today...

It was a joke on the movie? Gee, have your taken you pills today.. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The oil looks dirty..I forgot you have the older ones. Also do NOT stand to close to the microwave since it will hurt you. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif And cigarettes do not cause cancer either. Again, these are called old jokes……

I agree I see a lot of old farmer around here with there 8N’s and such…Yes, we do have farmers. J But then again you can spell your name on the engine with all the used oil too.

The “Numbers may be hard to argue with” for some, but they at least give you are starting point.

If grabbing any off the shelf oil works for ya, that is great! I personally like to know what I am buying so I can “see what I am buying”.

I am not knocking old tractors either. They work. So did old-school dialup modems, old 486's, lan lines, small 500 MB of ram too. But things progress and get better, but the old -school stuff still works too.
