Kubota is a huge company with revenues topping $7 billion, but it appears that they actually lost money for 2003 to the tune of $66 million or -24 cents per share. That vs. their profit of $76 million in 2002...but the stock has almost doubled in price in the last 12 months. They do show an increase of sales in their machinery division of 10% for the last nine months of 2003. As for 2004, I have not seen any figures, but with a loss like that in 2003, I would figure that the dealers might have lots of inventory. Figures taken from Ameritrade business news.

Those numbers would be protected pretty closely if they where publicly available. I have heard a few thrown around at different sales meetings. Each company has to do their own homework. The only reliable figures are those from foreign companies because the port records are public information. Example, Mahindra sold a total of about 8000 units last year. The market as a whole is around 140,000 units (I think). Every chart I have seen shows Kubota as the Compact leader with about 40% of the market. Deere and NH have a good chunk and the bottom 10-15% is split up between the other half dozen small companies. Like I said, these numbers are different every time I see them.

Neil, where can I find those port numbers?

Also, do they list gray market used tractors by manufacturer? That would be invaluable information for marketing spare parts for grays.

I think Jim (JCA) is on to something here - we are seeing the leading edge of a trend in discretionary spending by those with comfortable incomes, and retirees. Our TBN founders figured this out several years ago!

Neil's numbers imply about 56,000 compact Kubota's sold last year. A 37% increase would be about 20,000 tractors, annualized. An extra 1700 per month, nationwide. I think we can assume that, no matter how wonderful it is, TBN isn't the cause.

Cheers,
Jim

Interesting statement. Probably true but, I wonder how many people who bought Kubota visited this site before buying?
