Thank you for the explanation. Despite my fluids class in college, I am certainly no hydraulics guy.

On Surplus Center, I don't find much looking for Power Beyond...
I don't know if these two are actually compatible, but does that mean that I add a "power beyond" fitting to "any" valve?

like this POWER BEYOND SLEEVE FOR PRINCE SV VALVE

added to my "original" valve: 1 SPOOL 12 GPM WALVOIL SD5 CONTROL VALVE

I mostly understand the theory. I'm not sure yet how to apply it though.

Or maybe this one is better???:
NorTrac Monoblock Hydraulic Control Valve — 12 GPM, 1 Spool | Control Valves| Northern Tool + Equipment

I "chatted" with northern tool and they say I need a conversion plug 49388 for power beyond, but it is the same plug they say in the "questions" section for a closed-center. So I'm unsure about that one........

Valves that have a PB port are usually plugged. The assumption is that the valve will be the last valve in the hyd system and all fluid will exit the tank port

In that case, the main flow is mixed with the tank/return flow and all fluid exits from the tank port to tank.

If you use the PB port, an adapter for that valve is installed to make the valve PB capability to feed the next valve..

When using PB adapter, the tank line must go to tank.

That same port is also used to make the valve a closed center b installing a closed center plug in the PB port.

Emailed surplus center, and was recommended this valve
1 SPOOL 8 GPM PRINCE MB11B5C1 DA VALVE

Seems reasonable. I guess I just needed to read through all the descriptions in order to find a valve with power beyond that isn't a multi-spool automated beast (or email).

Regardless, I guess I have a better understanding of power beyond and I have a valve spec'd. Both of which I was looking for.

I've had good luck with the the Prince wolverine valves in the past, just wanted to pass along another option on surplus center I was looking at the other day that could save a few bucks.
1 SPOOL 12 GPM WALVOIL SD5 CONTROL VALVE

just nee d to varify that it is PB capable (my application didn't need it so didn't look into it).

Edit. just found the info on the walvoil site, says the sd5 is convertible to PB.

Should the 3rd function go "before" or "after" the loader valve? Occurred to me that it probably doesn't matter, hydraulically.

The 3rd function valve should go after the 3rd function because it probably does not have a relief valve.

Which valve are you using? The Prince valve you have listed in your earlier post incorporated a relief and can be used before or after the loader valve as long as you configure it for power beyond.

It's more common to put it after the loader valve as most people want the loader functions to have priority.

He indicated a solenoid 3 rd function valve in his first post, and it has to go after the loader valve.

If it is a monoblock spool valve, it can to anywhere in the flow path if the PB adapter is used.

I was under the impression the op had decided on a diverter valve setup on his personal tractor and this was in reference to his fathers L3710, which was leaning towards the mechanical lever valve he mentioned.

That's why I was asking which valve.

Yessir. It's been a winding thread, and it's my fault.
This is the valve, and it does have a relief.

I can appreciate it being after the loader, for priority. If it makes plumbing way simpler, for example, it's a nice option (knowing the drawbacks) to have is all.

As an aside, I finally got my diverter hooked up and it works great. Much easier for me to wrap my head around. As is shown in this thread, I'm only now understanding "power beyond".
