Yep fix it. I can't stand having stuff missing or cobbed together with baling twine...

Been down on my back for 2 weeks, so I haven't kept up much with your thread BR, but coming home from the Doctors office yesterday, I saw round bales at the feed store for $105!! I wasn't aware it was that high in N Texas yet. I have seen more hay in the fields the 1st cutting here than I saw all of last year.

Sorry to hear about the back .... Seems as the price is going up ... I'm thinking before spring it will be higher. I saw square bales of bermuda on CL for $13

It would be nice to have a few thousand squares put up, this Fall it will only go up.

question, how much hay do you guys bale a year? in tons please my bailing days were in the small kicker bales. I helped out several local farmers for hunting rights all they had was the kicker bales that we had to stack in the top of the barns in 100 degree temps.

We are pretty small at this point. This year We'll do about 250 1200# bales. Last year we sprigged most of our fields in coastal and Midland 99 and fields still filling in.

   / Did a little hay last week ... #447
we out up prolly 130 to 140 tons of hay this year equal to 215 round bales 2012 hay an 20 bales of 2011 hay.an we are feeding a little hay along now.put out 3 bales of last years hay yesterday.

60tons so far, thats 111 rounds 5x4 and 160 squares cutting our other place tuesday before it burns up,may get 30bales off the 30ac. and may get another cutting off lease place. Need atleast 120 rolls

Between the rounds and the squares about 410 tons of hay. I fell a little short of my goal.

Well I baled the folks 30acres today my father said its just gonna burn up whats there. It sucked hated raking(took like 10 passes to make a windrow) and baling by myself to make 15 bales.I personally wonted to turn cows in on it and top it off was my birthday. It was so dusty couldnt even see hay going into baler, tomorrow I have lots of cleaning to do and blow out some filters......

Oh that gathering wheel,I ran it like it was and by the time I got finished it had like 4 rubber teeth left. I think im done for the year anyways but cant complain we have 122(5x4's) bales put up between mine and the folks, beat the **** out of last years 31.....Hope all is well guys

All is well ... I hate it when its tough to make a windrow. 122 is definatly better than 31 and I hope you enjoyed the hay season. Looks like I'll get one more cut of bermuda on the home place and then i too will clean up and put away for the year. Now you have the winter to get that gathering wheel replaced!!!

If you guys are talking about the gathering wheels on your round baler, I had a situation like that on my Hesston just a few years after I purchased it new. The wheels were large round metal discs with a 1/2" thick rubber ring around the outside. The rubber was molded/stamped to have protrusions similar to teeth around the outside edge that contacted the ground.

The replacement cost was ridiculous and new ones wouldn't last long either, due to design and material, in my opinion.
So I took an old worn out truck tire and sawed the sidewalls off it with a sawzall and metal blade.
I didn't cut teeth into the outer edge, just left it round.
Then I drilled holes in the inner edge to match the holes of the original broken rubber rings and bolted them onto the metal wheels with the curve/cup of the sidewall facing forward. They have worked, actually better than the originals IMO, for 15 years with no sign of
wear or cracking.

I done it while un-loading it off trailer, but the replacement cost is $90bucks,figure next time I mite be alittle more careful now I know what it cost to replace. Going to use a drawbar on the 3point next time and not hook it up to the hitch so it will lift it alot higher instead of barely catching.. Thats a good idea you have, throw some goodyears on it:D

Be careful of lifting the tongue too high while backing down a trailer ramp.
Depending on where the main ground wheels are on the baler compared to the back lift door, and your ground clearance on level ground you don't want to back the bottom of the rear door of the baler into the ground while backing off the ramp with the tongue high.
That would cost a lot more than $90 to fix.
If you think there might be a problem have someone watch your clearance the first time you try it.

That was the 2nd time loaded and unloaded,I got in at dark and unloaded by myself(nobody to help). I have been backing the Baler on trailer, its not long enough to pull on there with tractor, just 24ft.

Well I got back from Leona today and if we get some of this rain in forecast,I think I will bale again. The grass has jumped up good but I am not going to take the gamble and fertilize it.

You have been getting some decent rain showers ... seems as if I'm in the "no rain zone" ... everything goes around me!!
