Why are we even talking about BioDiesel.

Accord to what I've read Kubota won't support anything over B5 (5%).
Which is kind of useless.

I also read that anything over B5 runs like crap in the Bxx20 series (E-TVCS engines)

I'm actually very well versed on this. The reason Kubota only okay's B5 comes from the Kubota engine division. They sell engines to over 500 other companies who put the engines into a wide variety of applications. When they okay B5, they do it not just for Kubota tractors but also for all these other applications as well... so they play it on the conservative side.

We at our store actaully put B10 (gasp) in the tanks. Its what our local fuel oil company delivers. We've never noticed any ill effects, but I would not doubt that there are mixes of Bio out there that would not run well as there are so many different forumuations and mixes of bio. The only time we recomend against bio is on engines with common rail fuel injection.

Sorry I put that comment in the wrong thread. Thanks for replying.

I just found out my dealer is recommending a filter only change on the L series at 50 hrs and then fluid and filter at 400 hrs. I do not know about the other series tractors. Brian

I'm just curious.

Why would kubota ship tractors with SUDT knowing it would be flushed in the first 50 hr's?

I think it's pretty well accepted today that on cars if you change oil every 3000 miles synthectic is a waste of money.

If the first 50hr's is just for collecting metal shavings etc. Why put SUDT in it?

Is it strictly marketing shiping it with SUDT or do they expect it to be in their say for 400hrs?

Just a thought.

That is an interesting question, and I see your point. If you've ever met with the Engineers who design this stuff you'd quickly see that they have a very high standard for quality. I'd think that each one of those guys dies a little inside each time someone chooses to use UDT.

I've met engr types like that, good to know they're out there in the tractor world and haven't let the MBA's influence them too much :D

re. SUDT as breakin oil. Going against the grain here, I'd think it's a tremendous advantge for proper breakin for HST's that are designed to operate on the multiweight SUDT. Specifically, taking full advantage of the thinner properties at cold startup, which would allow for proper breakin while minimizing the wear in the main & rod bearings at this critical time.
I would argue that the benefit of less breakin wear may produce less breakin debris as well as it keeps the new close tolerances - closer, than it otherwise would with a thicker less viscous straight weight oil at cold startup.

If this is accurate, it would appear that Kubota is taking that additional slightly more expensive manufacturing step to ensure that their product retains it's reputation as a high quality product.

Course it could be that they get such a great deal when they buy SUDT in bulk that the price diff between UDT and SUDT is neglegable to them in terms of cost ;D :D

A while back say 10 years ago.

Car enthusiasts were warned NOT to put synthetic in their engines within the first recommended oil change period because you'd be removing non synthetic "dino based break-in oil" (this was on Audi/Porche forums). The Synthetic was "to good" and didn't let things wear a little to properly break in. After "break in" synthetic was fine.

Now things may have changed to today and transmissions might be different than engines. I know some performance cars now ship with synthetic.

But I'd thought I'd throw it out there.

Afternoon all,

I have read the various comments and such on this issue and being a new B3200 owner have just sent tractor in for a warrenty repair on backhoe and i am having dealer do the first 50hr sevice while in the shop. I also emailed Kubota with the 50 vs 400 hr change and their responce was that the owner manual was correct and no changes to the manual have occurred.
My dealer is also checking with their rep to find a answer also.

Does anyone out their have a email from Kubota or dealer responce or such that they would share as it seems to be a conflict as to the 50 vs 400 change that i could show my dealer and try to get this straight.

Thanks Gene

Eric, please follow the Maintenance guide (page 39) in your Owners manual.
You will see that you do not have to change the transmission fluid until
the 400 hr. interval. What came in the tractor from the factory is Super
UDT. If you are having to top-off the fluid level because of filter change.
That is what I would recommend. You will see on page 40 under Lubricants
that 10W-30 is the motor oil to use all year because of your location. You
can contact your selling dealer if you have any questions on how to perform
this maintenance.
Thank you for contacting Kubota Tractor Corp.
