However - these new "exotic" sales techniques must be working. Why else would a salesperson use them. The fisherman only ties a rock on the end of his line if it works.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

These tactics work because people in general have been dumbed down with glitzy advertising. Like fancy fishooks catch more fishermen than fish. And, in this "gotta have it now" world we live in, the salespeople take full advantage with convincing babble about their product. Just like the banks, who claim to be your friend, only look to "Help" to relieve you of your money. The old saying "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull" is so true.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

Buy a truck the right way like you'd buy a tractor:

1) get price advice online from folks in other states.

2) buy from the nearest dealer or you won't get service when you need it. (assume constantly)

3) be sure to get 0% financing.

4) decide on less horsepower to avoid emissions hassle and to apply dollars saved to 'may use someday' accessories. (snow plow, etc)

5) make your neighbors jealous and tell us all about it. :D

Good news the local dealer is becoming pro active
I have also changed to a super cab XLT as with Velocity blue the only interior is black and cloth in that color is cooler than leather. Now for a question for the group 302 V8 or the 3.5 echo boost engine

There are several threads on the motor debate. I have a 3.5 EB in my 19 F150. Im happy with it. Plenty of power and if I drive it normally, I get 19.5 mpg avg. If I'm stomping on it or towing something it drops down to 15/16 mpg.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

I think you will find that 3.5 EB owners love the engine and 5.0 owners also love the engine. They are both quality items. The 3.5 is higher tech, will give you a little better gas mileage and more torque. However, some people are just more comfortable with the V8. Pick the one you like and you'll be happy.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

I can't say I ever understood axle ratios. Used to be very interested in POLICE cars and there specs. Looking at build sheets and various availaalbe axle ratios. Thought deeper ratios gave low end torque and pickup but poor mileage and less top end speed.

I know I don't fully understand it.

And why don't they express ratios as something to one. Why 4:11 and so forth?

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

It is 4.11 to one. As would 4.88, 4.56, 2.73 and so on. So many revolutions of the driveshaft to one revolution of the rear axle. 4.88 for drag racing or serious pulling, 2.73 for mileage, low engine rpm at highway speed.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

Thanks. DUH! I remember doing the math for dividing 4 into 11 and nothing made much sense after that.

So deeper gears would impose less hp requirements and less fuel used for starting off. But penalize you at higher speed. OF course OD and more gears must have changed some of that. Must be a complex study.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

I can稚 believe in this day of information dealers are still attempting to lie to customers in order to sell what they want to sell you?
The not returning the phone call isn稚 due to neglegt or poor customer service. It痴 an attemp to manipulate you into being more compliant when you call them and they act the fool trying to spin more bull up that cavity.

Find a dealer that痴 honest from the start and you will be better off.
They really want to move what痴 sitting on their lot, Not what the customer may want. I壇 do an online search, find what it wanted and call that dealer. You can work a deal online and then drive to get your new vehicle ( or if no trade do a fly n drive). Son just bought a new Gladiator for $4 k less than his local dealer wanted for the exact same truck! He had to drive 250 miles each way to get it, but for $4k it was still a great deal.
