Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

The tv adds are so full of crap when it comes to vehicles in general. Showing cars that you can't buy here, European model shown. WTF???? Thousands of $$$ in discounts on certain models off MSRP. Giggle price. Used to work in a Ford dealership, they printed their own window sucker price sticker. Trucks at one dollar over cost, who are they trying to kid?? The BS meter runs in the red zone evey time I see a commercial. Bought my 2018 F 150, heavily discounted of course, still at retail with the dealer making his profit.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

I'll provide a counter opinion here. Unless you really have a concern about the dealer, I would give him another shot. The Ford option combinations are not necessarily logical. If you put one wrong or unnecessary restriction in, the color choices can be drastically reduced. I had to order my 2017 F-150 because none existed with my package choices. I went with a Lariat Sport package and that cut the color options almost in half. The real kicker was that I didn't want to pay for the navigation system and they don't build many Lariats without it.

Option packages is an other thing that is total bull crap!

Sorry folks but it doesn稚 make anything better for you only a way for them to charge more for less!

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

It's the same with everything. I live on the NY/Canada border. Apparently no one wants to return a call or website inquiry about tractors. I got either no response, a ridiculous price from one Kubota dealer or one JD dealer called to tell me that he had what I wanted on his lot and that he'd check the price and call me back. That was 2 weeks ago. Also no response from a generally well respected on this forum Kubota dealer out of PA.
I have no allegiance to locals because they sure don't seem to have any for me. A deal for a Kubota BX2380 was struck with Barlow in Kentucky and I'm awaiting delivery.
The last F250 I bought was about 2 hours from home because the locals either don't respond or don't listen to details about what I'm shopping for and try to sell me a truck 3 trim levels above what I want.

My last trip out car/truck shopping still has me laughing!
I stopped to look at was on the lot, just wanting to check some things out and get a look at the price posted on the sticker.
The sales lady came out, I thought great she can point me to the row of trucks with the things I want instead of looking at each row till I find them.
Wrong answer, she didn稚 even want to direct me to what I was interested in until I went inside and give her all my information and talk about what I wanted and was willing or able to spend and how I would finance everything then she would show me what I wanted to see or as she stated it what she thought would fill or fit me needs.
This sales person actually got rude when I told her I don稚 shop that way, you tell me where the vehicles I知 interested are, I look at them then if interested in buying I値l come in and talk price, when we settle on a price you will get any needed information at that point. She responded that they it doesn稚 work like that here and I must come in first and do things thier way!
Laughing at her at this point I told her that she will never get my money with her attitude and a sales plan like that as I started heading for my current truck to leave. She got even more upset asking me where I was going, my response was someplace they will give me better treatment as a customer and I can buy the truck I want!
One week later I stopped with my new truck to let her know that her competition understood much better that it was my money they wanted and by doing it my way was the only way to get it and they didn稚 get anything more than my first name until after price was agreed upon and I wanted a test ride to ensure I was going to be happy with the truck.

She was stunned and seemed very confused by the reaction of her manager when I told him that could have been your sale!

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

Many, many years ago I saw one of the first Plymouth Roadrunners to come to Dallas on a dealers lot. So I went inside, offered the keys to the car I was then driving, to a salesman, and told I'd like to know how he'd trade my car for that new Roadrunner. He asked, "How much would you be willing to give?" I told him, "No, that's not the way it works. YOU tell ME how much it'll take to trade." He said, "Well, if you don't know how much you're willing to pay, there's no need for me to get your current car appraised." So, I turned around and left, drove right across Dallas to another Plymouth dealer and told the salesman what I wanted. He said they didn't have a Roadruner, and briefly tried to sell me something else. I told him I wanted a Roadrunner; nothing else. He said he didn't think there was one in Dallas. So I told him where there was one, and he said he didn't think that other dealer would be willing to dealer transfer it. But after checking with his boss, he came up with a mutually agreeable price IF HE could get a Roadrunner. So he called the other dealer, they agreed to a dealer transfer and I went with him to the other dealer to get my Roadrunner. He asked me to not go in, to just go on back to his dealership, and he'd get the Roadrunner and bring it to me. He'd been a nice guy so I did it; but always reqretted not going back as you did to show that first idiot salesman the sale he missed.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

Buy a couple of very expensive coffee mugs and they will give you a "FREE" truck. Leading gimmick is "How much can you afford in a monthly payment" They will juggle the numbers any way possible to make it sound like you are winning the deal, WRONG !!!!!! PT Barnum catch phrase, There's a sucker born every minute, probably framed in every sales manager office.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

The urge for me would have been too much! As soon as the deal was done I would have went back with the new car and asked if they had Keychain or something saying roadrunner on it for my new car parked right in front of the main enterence!

My friends new girl did just that the other day. She still thinks she got a good deal, but I figured the cost and can tell she didn’t get a deal worth having. Paying for a year longer to get a decent monthly rate isn’t saving money no matter how much you might like the car or truck.

I tried to tell my wife that I purchased a new T shirt at the shop and they gave me a free motorcycle with it when I came home with my last bike.

She wasn’t amused!

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

If you can find what you want within driving distance you should pursue it.

How far away are the trucks you found in that color/package combo. Do any meet ALL your specifications? If you find one within driving distance email them and request a buyers order with the OUT THE DOOR PRICE. This is important to keep them from springing a surprise dealer fee or some such crap on you. Print it out and take it with you. If they try to move the goal post at signing ask for the manager or owner.

I'm liking that story. Some don't understand that they aren't the only game around. Last time I shopped I was very specific about what I wanted. XLT Premium with 6.2 gas. An "internet sales manager" woman got back to me. Offered several trucks, all of which were Lariats, Platinums and King Ranches with 6.7 diesel and all sticker priced tens of thousands of dollars above what I was shopping for.
The guy who owned the dealership at the time is a personal friend, but I wasn't playing that card and acting like everyone else who knows him does trying to use the friendship for a deal. I just moved on to a dealer about 25 miles down the interstate and bought there.
