Didn't know buying a truck was so hard

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

The last several vehicles I've bought have been "$500 over invoice". I know it's a sham, but far better than paying MSRP and the dealer "takes care of me". For instance, on my last RAM they de-badged it and put on my Borla Type-S cat-back system, plus removed the stock tires and installed my aftermarket purchased ones. All at no additional charge. That's typical for them.

Going back to a previous post about whether the salesman is there for the day or his lifetime (not those words exactly, but the feeling), the salesman I deal with has been at the dealer for a looooong time. I'm sure he's told me, but it's like 40 years or so. I don't have to wonder why.

Everybody likes to act like the battle hardened trader when they buy their stuff and will show the notches on their totem for every good deal they have made. So not trying to knock you down. But on vehicles negotiations start at invoice, you let a dealer do otherwise or tell you they dont make money at invoice they took you for ride.

I would say pick the V8 over the EB just because it would be easier to work on but ford is going out of their way to prevent people from having the ability to work on their trucks without dealer tools.

EB is just a as reliable. TBH the average joe isnt working on anything at home anymore anyways.

I don't mind. My business is a lot more profitable than theirs (assumed, based on national averages). Bottom line is that I am happy with the price I paid for what I got so it doesn't matter to me if they made $1 or $10,000.

Ever had to chase a boost leak? Ever price turbos ?

I think I could do this, but the chances of having to do it in the first 150,000 or so miles is almost zero.

Its all about being happy and getting what you thought was fair. Im all about being fair as everybody has to put food on the table. Me personally Im not paying a dollar more for something than I should.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

Good news the local dealer is becoming pro active
I have also changed to a super cab XLT as with Velocity blue the only interior is black and cloth in that color is cooler than leather. Now for a question for the group 302 V8 or the 3.5 echo boost engine

ECO BOOST all the way. I have had both, and the eco boost is by far the better engine.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

I own a 5.0 in a 2017. I have read some negative stuff on 2018 and newer 5.0 engines using oil. I think Ford has a handle on it but am unsure. Do a little research on it before buying. They changed the way the cylinders are lined on 2018 and newer 5.0. Mustangs are in the same boat.

With the newer 10 speed automatic the gear ratio in the rear end is a lot less critical.

When I got mine, my must have options were 36 gallon fuel tank, 4x4, super cab, electric rear locker, and XLT.

Maybe.

I have driven many different NA vs FI engines. Turbos DO give amazing results with relatively low costs. For all-out performance, I prefer a supercharger.

There is an old adage, which I personally feel holds (mostly) true today - "there is no substitute for cubic inches". It comes down to torque. Lots of people talk about HP. Yes, it's not an insignificant number, BUT IT's NOTHING MORE THAN TORQUE AT SPECIFIC RPM.

CI (well set up) generally will translate to good torque numbers. More CI = more torque = more HP.

A positive displacement supercharger will make an engine "appear" larger than it really is.

I am still waiting for Whipple to release a 2.9L kit for the '20 RAM 5.7 Hemi.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

The eco boost engines are twin turbos and spool up at pretty low rpms. They give really good low torque numbers. The only negative I’ve read is less engine braking. The 2.7 and 3.5 eco boost vs the 5.0 are always debated on the F150 Forums.

Same here. Like driving a diesel (with the low end torque) but without the new diesel EPA problems. And I still think it funny that people who wouldn't hesitate to buy a heavy duty diesel truck (which are all turbocharged) but get all in a tizzy about a turbo on a gas engine. Pretty much ALL manufacturers are using them now on gas engines and no one is reporting turbo problems. Yes, years ago they used to be more problematic but the manufacturers have figured out ways to make them live a long life without driver input (cool down periods, etc.).
