Being the paranoid soul that I am, and that my Kubota doesn't see a lot of use now, sat out all spring, summer & fall of 2006.

I bought a pint of this stuff that seems to handle all potential problems.

Had absolutely no problem when I finally started it in January for snow removal.

I don't disagree with those of you who say I don't need it but I feel better adding two capfuls when I refill the tank. Whether I need it or not. Algae-X 805

Yes.

OK. So I come into your office. I have no symptoms of anything wrong.

What would you prescribe for me? What should I be taking?

My question to you is why are you going to see a doctor?

You gotta read the whole thread. My original post compared treating diesel fuel that isn't exhibiting any symptoms of problems with prescribing a doctor prescribing medicine to a patient who has no symptoms, either.

Yes, and you might put an additive in it to prevent the growth of algae, or to prevent gelling in cold weather, before it shows symptoms, just as you (or some of us, at least) get a flu shot in the Fall when we have no symptoms, or various and sundry other vaccinations, or even oral medications such as the polio preventative on a sugar cube.

Fair enough, Bird. I concede the point.

Bird got it right. Like I said before, vaccines are the perfect example. But it is also a matter of examining risk factors. You might have risk factors for coronary artery disease without having any symptoms. High blood pressure and high cholesterol don't generally have symptoms. But you might say that those are a problem, and that's fair enough. But, being a male over 40 and having a family history of heart disease are both risk factors without symptoms or abnormalities.

And my question was aimed at looking at potential risk factors for my tractor (warm humid climate, infrequent use, off road diesel, old diesel, etc) to see if an additive could help prevent potential problems down the road.

Having read this thread I don't feel strongly that I need to anything to my fuel, but I still might if it looks like there is a possibility of helping things or even if the warm fuzzy feeling I get from dumping the stuff in my tank is worth the price of the stuff. To extend the medical metaphor, that would be like a placebo. If it makes you feel better and does no harm, then it is probably worth it. B12 shots are a good example of that. Lots of folks say it gives then energy. If they are not B12 deficient then it does not give them energy. But it is harmless so if they want it and want to pay for it and feel like it helps, then no problem.

So, the moral of the story is that you (me, we, us) might be due for a complete physical to figure out just what types of risk management might help you live a longer more healthy life!

I agree.. It was either vauge? or????

Speaking of vaccines.. my wife had to have quite a few when she went to the middle east and a few other places last year... I'm glad it was her and not me.. i hate needles!

I wasn't sure what his point was. Maybe he was saying that a doctor does prescribe preventive meds and that I should apply the same principle to my tractor. But, it wasn't clear.

Yep, there are tons of medications used to prevent problems before they occur. Virtually all vaccines fit that description. Any number of meds are used to prevent stroke and heart attacks. There are meds that prevent blood clots, etc, etc.

at my job, on one vehicle purchase one of the buyers got sucked into having those Algae-X magnetic fuel conditioners installed as part of the vehcile purchase.

I don't know if they work but I do they get clogged up.

had more than one of those Algae X contraptions cause the engine to stall..

seems like altering fuel lines would cause some warranty issues
