seems like altering fuel lines would cause some warranty issues

I believe Florida Detroit Diesel Allison sold us the product and did the installation.

POS goes on the suction side of the Fuel Pro , right before the inlet check valve.

I use Power Service, white bottle, at the rate of 2 oz. per 5 gal. diesel, in my Kubota and Duramax Diesel TV. Tractor cost +$20,000 and Duramax +$40,000. I consider the cost of the additive insignificant relative to the cost of the equipment; consider it a little extra insurance for the engines. Noticed that they sell it at most if not all the Major Truck Stops along the Interstates. Also use D5 when available, still add PS. Also keep a red bottle of power servicve in the vehicle during the winter months. After driving gassers for 50 years, I'm now a Diesel Advocate (Can't wait until they start making Ultra Clean Diesel from coal - 5ppm sulfur.)

they also sell beer in many fuel stations along the interstate.

does that mean you should use that too?

Red herring argument.. beer is not a fuel addative.. You got anything else that doesn't add to the debate?

someone selling something does not mean that it works.

that would be the gist of my post but if I have to explain, its obvious you didn't understand.

I bet that the side effects of beer use are more easily proven in labratory tests than the use of Diesel Additives. LOL.

Explanation is irrelevant. The comment as posted had no bearring on the discussion.. next?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I searched back over the last 4 months and didn't find much. But, I'd like a little info about what I might need as a diesel additive. I'm not talking about anything specific, and I may not need anything at all. So let me tell you my situation, which is probably a fairly common one.

My tractor gets used sporadically. It can go anywhere from a few weeks to a month without use. Fuel also sits in 5 gallon cans in the tool shed.

Temperature range is from mid twenties to mid 90's with most of them being on the warmer side....so no problems with slushy fuel. It is very humid in the spring and summer.

I use offroad diesel. I have no idea what the sulphur content is or even what that means to my engine in regard to a need for additives.
My tractor does not get used enough for fuel economy to be an issue.

So the question is, do I need to put anything in my fuel? If so, what?

In general, I've never been the type to use additives in my gas vehicles but diesel may be different. The only thing I've ever seen really work is an additive for tapping valves. Worked in about 2 minutes and the valves never tapped again! But that was in a high mileage gas engine that had not been treated right.
I use 3 Oz. of Power Service in the white bottle per 5 Gal. of Diesel the year around.

I spent all of this last weekend in Ft. Worth Texas at a lubricants and fuels technology conference headed by Lubrizol for Texas Refinery Corp. personnel. My head is just now starting to shrink back into it's original hat size. :) I think I learned more in the 3 day conference about lubricant chemistery then I have in the last couple of month's. One thing they thourghly went over were the new problems of ULSD and the greater need for treating the fuel. It was a real eye opener to see how low the US diesel fuel quality standards are and how far advanced other countries are when compared to us here. To name a few of the problems that are occuring with ULSD: lower lubricity, lower oxidative stability, lower conductivity, lower solvency, lower density, drastic changes in cold flow behavior and a large variation in regional fuel quality.

Lubrizol sponsored it? What do you THINK they're going to say? That diesel is fine the way it is? How would they sell anything if they said that? Always remember the SOURCE of ANY information you get. I'm not saying it's all BS, but I'm sure it's embellished quite a bit! The truth is probably somewhere in the middle...

my thoughts exactly

create a problem and sell a solution

I'm sitting here at work with our 1000 diesel powered vehicles that get driven 24/7/365 and I haven't seen any fuel related issues develop that we didn't have before the ULSD came out.

Wait and see.
