Both will burn kerosene and may be happy to do so especially if you blend it with "real" diesel fuel. Unfortunately I think you are not going to get the results you want. Kerosene has less energy per gallon so you end up having to burn more ( a little more throttle to compensate) which you will not notice mostly except for a loss of mileage in the truck (maybe a little less power) and more frequent fueling for the tractor.

You are "saving" only 2% in cost per gallon but will give up more than 2% in miles per gallon in your truck and more than 2% in work done per gallon on your tractor.

Sorry, but although you will be paying less per gallon, you will be spending more $ to get the same miles on your truck and work done with your tractor. You need to find kerosene at a significantly lower price to make it a good deal.

Well, it's that time for me again; to fill my little diesel tank. Life must be great for my local distributors because the price varies by almost 40 cents a gallon and none are really interested in filling, what I admit is little, my 550 gallon tank anytime soon. :(

Anyway, this morning prices ranged from $3.89 a gallon to $4.29 for 500 gallons or so of #2 off road delivered. Anyone else priced fuel this week?

I gave up pricing altogether. It is way to stress inducing.

For Number one I have not seen the retreat like gas prices have. Still hovering around 4.60-4.80 a gallon. Off road at one pump in the fine downtown area I am in, 4.45.

Go figure...

Dargo (et al), Anyone noticed the larger oil companies BILLIONS in profits for the last quarter posted? It isn't like very many people in the petrochemical distribution chain are exactly hurting.

The operator that runs the 2 wells on my place is one of the few suffering. The company he sells his oil to had some shenanigans pulled by the top dude. He went highly leveraged with zillions of bucks of company money and tried to make a killing but ended up a loser bankrupting the company. The checks to the oil operator running the wells on my place run about 2 months behind his deliveries to them. So, no checks for 2 months. Now when he sells to a new company it will be 2 months before he sees a check. So he is without any income for 4 months due to the machinations of the greedy oil guys.

This is NOT a typical story. Most folks anywhere in the petrochemical industry are doing fine or better. Anyone who can strike an arc can get a job welding something in the oil industry, at least in Oklahoma.

Too bad 550 gal doesn't get anyones attention. I have no problems getting my little 300 gal overhead tank filled with off road. They fill it and send me a bill in 3-4 weeks.

I have 2 each 1000 gal propane tanks and it is interesting to go out for bids to get 1000 gal or so. Some offer no break at all and some will drive further than anyone else and give the best price to make a 1000 gal sale. Quite a variation in prices.

And, usually, that is how it works for my small operation as well. I'm just assuming that since the price has dropped in the last few weeks the distributors in my area have enough orders for thousands of gallons at a time that they don't want to fool with me until they hit their bigger money stops first. Oh well, I suppose that's the way it works.

LB, in my area you'd never get 55 gallons delivered even at the slowest times. I think every company in my area has something like a 200 gallon minimum or you go fetch it yourself. With fuel costs rising, which make delivery costs more, that minimum may go up to 500 gallons soon according to one of the three companies I call. With that small of an amount LB is talking about, you'd have to have a tank mounted in the back of your pickup truck and go fetch. Hopefully I don't get into a situation where the minimum is more than 500 gallons without a surcharge for a minimum delivery. I guess it could happen.
