Diesel prices?

Just heard that GM is closing four SUV and truck plants do to slow sales. Thousands of jobs will be lost.

The plant in Mexico that is closing manufactures the medium duty trucks. It is no longer needed as Navistar International has purchased the medium truck line from GM, and will consolidate production into their Mexican facility. International will now manufacture 3 medium truck lines, theirs, Ford's and GM's.

I filled the company truck yesterday evening, road diesel was $4.699 at Shell, $4.429 at BP. Both stations were on an interstate exit, about the same distance from the exit. The BP doesn't accept our fuel card though.

WOW! .... that would be a bargin out here!

Just this past weekend I went down to top off the tractor and fill a couple five gal. jugs with off road diesel......$4.579. On road....$4.999 was $5.059 Memorial weekend! Gas for the pick-up $4.409 (mid grade)

I'm getting 40 gallons of off road delivered tomorrow morning.
About 4$ per gallon.
On road at speedway here is 4.729.

*Well it didn't turn out quite like this.
They didn't make it this morning.
So I called them and set it up for delivery about 4:30 pm today.
It was $4.18 a gallon this morning but by the time they got here this afternoon it dripped to $4.02 per gallon so i took 60 gallons instead of 40 gallons.

Saw $5.29 at one station (Conoco I believe--gotta pay for that contest they have going on!!) on my way to work this A.M. Most locally are about $4.89.

So what if it is?

What we need is an energy supply that is clean, readily available and does not cause human suffering. I don't have a clue as to what it is, but we need to cure our craving for oil.

I was out and about today, diesel prices were interesting to say the least. The highest was a Shell station at $4.799, the lowest was a BP station at $4.269. Yes, they were both road diesel.

The $15 run up of oil prices on Thursday and Friday of last week indicates to me that there are more forces than simple oil supply and demand at work. Some people are downplaying the role of investment funds etc. but to me it makes perfect sense that some are putting large amounts of $$ into oil contracts. The economy is slowing, stocks are soft but the price of oil is going up by leaps and bounds, buy some oil on contract now, sell if for a premium in a month or two. Until demand drops or some other event happens the price will continue to climb .

If bio-fuels are what is making food expensive why is the price of rice going up? It is not used to make any fuels. Obviously the price of fuel is what is making the price of food go up. Localization of food production might be the best thing that comes out of this in the long run... but probably a bad thing for farmers in exporting countries.
