Diesel prices

We're at 77.9 per liter up here. That's approximately $3.11.6 per gallon and it doesn't look like prices are going down. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well, Frank... that's a question we'd all like answered. How does 87 octane gas at $3.63.6 a gallon grab you? There's always talk about price fixing among the big oil companies, but a lot of it is Provincial and Federal taxes. I don't want to get too political here, but it seems the government always has its hand in your pocket.

The province where I come from doesn't have Provincial Sales Tax, but out here they've got it in a big way. For example, if you purchase a used vehicle as a private sale, you still have to pay 7.5% PST on the purchase before you can get registration and plates. And this applies every time the vehicle changes hands. They're collecting tax on the same vehicle probably 5 or 6 times before it finally makes it to the wrecker.

I didn't know about this until I bought my tractor used. I was told I'd need a plate if it was going to go on the road, went to get one, and was told I'd have to pay over $1300.00 tax. That's about half the price of an 18 foot trailer. Needless to say, when I'm going somewhere, I tow.

And if you've got any bad habits, you're sunk. $7.50 to $8.00 Cdn. for a pack of cigarettes... $12.00 Cdn. for a half dozen beer... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'd give my eye teeth for a green card.

Well, fill up the tank now, or wait??? I only have a 500 gallon diesel fuel tank, but I'm about down to 100 gallons. For obvious reasons, I do not use as much fuel over the winter than during the summer. With prices changing as much as they do now, do I fill now, or wait until I'm out?

A year or so ago I filled up at $.82 (off road) in the fall; added Stabil to the tank and didn't really need much until spring. That spring the price was $1.29 per gallon for the same stuff. That saved me well over $200 bucks by filling up in the fall. With prices seeming to be high now, I ask; fill up now or wait until spring?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

A Texaco station near me in CT was $2.07 a gallon last week, today it's up to $2.17. Good thing the BX23 is so frugal with fuel /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. The same station is about 15 cents per gallon cheaper than a closer Texaco station that doesn't sell diesel.

Diesel is refined from crude oil. Hence, the price of diesel at the pump is directlly related to the price of crude. If anyone knew for sure what the price of crude was going to be even one month in the future, they could make a fortune in the futures market.

I find crude oil for a living. My employer (and all other oil companies) watch the price of crude oil and natural gas very carefully, and some pay good money for really smart people to try and predict the price of crude in the future. I'm not privy to the expensive predictions, but from my point of view there are a lot more reasons for the price of crude to go up than there are for it to go down for the next several years at least. Crude oil has always been cyclic, but I don't think we'll ever see $18/barrel oil ever again in my lifetime and it was there about a couple of years ago. Here is a pretty good web page with some historical perspective on crude oil prices if you're interested.

Bottom line, if I had a deisel storage tank, I would fill it now. I do have 1000 gallons of Propane storage capacity, and I filled those last month.

FLIP A COIN!!!!! i really don't see the price coming down much, be it diesel or gasoline. unless people quit buying it. there is every indication that the price will remain high or go higer yet, the hurricanes, the war, etcc. and this will affect the price of all energy.
