Did some experimentation. You need to lower fel/curl/grapple with motor off to relieve pressure once you quit whatever. I knew this from past grapple use, but kind of forgot. I had to discouple the QDs with channel locks a LOT of pressure in those lines for the curl/grapple.

I disconnected the QDs with difficulty, and reversed the hoses. After getting the grapple in a state of not working at all, it was back to normal, but the joystick left/right on the grapple open/close is opposite of the way I want. SO....I left the grapple open, then reversed the hoses again. The first operation of the grapple allow me to close the grapple then it was back to not opening or closing at all.

Bottom line, the grapple cylinder works with the hoses attached only one way. The question is why? How can I reverse how it works?

It just occurred to me.....

I want the grapple to clamp with joystick pulled left....that is an extension of the grapple cylinder.

Joystick pulled left curls up....that is a contraction of the curl cylinders.

Is that the limitation?

I want that way, so I can clamp/curl up almost at the same time with the button being the control. I found in use as I curl up, you want to clamp a little more.

It is all about how you connect the hoses.

If it is not to your liking, just reverse the hoses on the grapple.

Switching the hoses on the grapple will make the grapple operate in the opposite direction, as fluid is applied either way. Fluid is either applied to the rod end or the cap end of the grapple cylinders. If it does not work there is a physical reason that the couplers are not passing fluid when hooked the other direction because of some defect of you did not get them plugged in fully or something like that.

Now that said, every Kubota joystick I have ever seen does NOT work as JJ explained it. The regeneration position is at the far right position of the joystick past the first detent area. His description of what is going on is correct but the first position from neutral to the right is the normal extension and the far right is the regenerative extension position (fast dump)

And for those of you with 30 minutes time and really really want to know how the regenerative (fast dump) position on your loader works and why. This will tell you all you want to know and them some.

Yep...I realized that.

J_J...I did switch the hoses, once at the diverter without touching the QDs, then once again at the QDs. Both times, hooked one way, grapple works, hooked the other way it doesn't.

I have two different brands of QDs, wondering if that is the problem. One set came with the grapple, and I bought another set at TSC. I've got the female ends on the tractor hoses, and the male ends on the grapple.

ON EDIT:...It occured after posting...the flow was working right, and when I switched the hoses at the diverter, that should rule out a compatible problem with QDs.

Ball type or poppet type? I had problems with the ball type about 10-15% of the time. And even though they are suppose to be compatible-interchangeable with the poppet type, apparently this is not always true. I gave up on the ball type and only use the poppet type now. All is good.

All ball AG type.

I thought this would be easy change....reason I went to the diverter and switched the hoses, since the hoses are slightly different length, and it staggers the position of the QDs. Also by doing, it seems the flow to the grapple is OK...it works....so switching at the diverter should have changed the left/right open/close....and seems others here is verifying that. Puzzling.
