He is wrong. You do not need a CDL until you breach 26,001lbs whether it be with a straight job truck or a combination.
You will need a Medical Card.
Your vehicle will also need to be licensed properly.

Didn't think that was right. Maybe he was assuming a certain weight tow vehicle.

I didn't read *this* whole thread, but I've read more than a few CDL threads here and on other forums. Attached a picture that I believe to be correct from how I understand the fed rules. Some states have different licensing available.
