DK45S/10k Trailer

Manufacturers will tag the GVRW upon request to 12k on a 14K constructed trailer. BTW, I ain't hauling my tractor with a trailer only weighing 1400#!

Ya there is a big difference between having tha actual GVWR downrated then just registering it for less weight

Yeah, it struck me that 1400 lbs was light, even for a 10K trailer. My 10K, 20' trailer states that it weighs 2745 empty. And, I don't think mine is especially heavy duty or anything. Even empty, you know it's back there. Towing my 1600 lb popup, you couldn't tell it was there. So, I'd say the 2745 lbs is closer to reality than 1400.

I shopped and shopped and shopped til I finally bought a new one from NE Tennessee for $2300. It was by far the best deal I could find. Even used, they weren't much less and most were beat all to death.

Noticed my post count, ain't no way I'm sitting on that number ............. please allow me some room mods.

AFA 1400#, it must have been hooked to a truck off the scales. I have a 7 x 12 single axle that weights 1200#.

It is a heavy duty trailer...I was wondering about the weight comments so I went out and looked... It weighs 2500 lbs! Don't know where I got the 1400 number from. My mistake now will you haul your tractor on it? lol :D

How do you guys load yr tractors with backhoes? Do you pull them on forward or backwards? Also what kind of straps or binders should a guy use? Chains and binders or ratchet straps ok?

I just ordered a Econo-Trailer 12K 20ft. I am now thinking I should have him sticker it for 10k???? Cuz I dont hv a CDL or medical card.

Thanks

Depending on what your towing with I see no need to down size the GVRW. For me hauling with a 1 ton dump with a GVRW of 12,500, I'm going to get a 14k tagged as a 12K. The "authorities" look at the total combined towing vehicle weight GVRW and trailer GVRW. If your over 26,000 you need CDL.

I would only do chains with a tractor my size (8K).

I'll tell you how I load when I get my trailer ........ :)

I have a Chevy Dmax crew cab 2500HD 9200 GVW. I was think about staying under the 10,000lb trailer GVW for DOT reasons.

I was think about staying under the 10,000lb trailer GVW for DOT reasons.

What reasons?

You would have to pull it with a F450 or the like before you would have to worry about CDL.

IMO downrating it may be a mistake. You may need the capacity in the future.
