Do doves scare away other birds?

Wish I had a mess of doves in my yard. Mmm tasty tasty doves.

I consider eating dove or quail a wast of time. Not enough meat on ether one of them to make cleaning them worth while.
I do loose quite a few every year when dove or quail season comes along.
Do keep the fattened up for the hunters.

My wife loves dove no matter how you cook them,, I on the other hand can't stand them no matter how you cook them.. She on the other hand loves to hunt them.. while I do not.. but she will put up bird feeder for the humming bird and set and watch them for hours on end with a glass of ice tea.

My dad has pet doves....well, doves he feeds everyday, at least. Usually about 3 dozen are in the driveway eating the birdseed he puts out on a daily basis and with them are usually a few squirrels and blackbirds. Doves are always first to jet at the slightest sound....as someone else has stated, hawks love picking them off. Have had a few hawks slam into a window on the house killing themselves as they try to swoop down on the birds.

All you do is pop out the breast...not that much work, but you are correct in saying there isn't much meat on them. I do the bacon-wrapped thing as well as a perlot, but it's been a long time since I've shot a dove.

Maybe she was refering to..... Chinese Trained Attack Doves......????? Or maybe she had a bad ' dove ' dream as a child... ??? [ :) ] Doves are less mean spirited than milk cows...

Thanks, everyone...my wife must just have some sort of a vendetta against doves. I'll explain things to her and tell her to relax.

I am married and I see this as a mistake. I wouldnt bother try explaining things unless she does listen to reason.

How about taking a pic of the said doves and post here ? Maybe its not a dove.

I have doves feeding alongside all the other smaller birds and never seen them aggressive other than their physical size trying to stay up on the small bird feeder ledge. Maybe your wife is confusing doves with mockingbirds who are very aggressive and will chase off all birds except maybe a blue jay who is even more aggressive. But none of them feed very long before they depart. I also have a red headed sap sucker that feeds in the feeder occasionally and doesn't bother birds feeding on the other side. I don't care for him as he pecks holes in all the young trees to feed on the sap and leaves them vulnerable to insect attack.

Well, two things. She won't listen to reason. Never has. What was I thinking?

Yes, they are 100% doves and I've got about 20 in the yard (a few acres) and they nest in trees everywhere. Every now and then I see where a hawk or owl grabs one and leaves a pile of feathers in the grass. Yup, doves and nope, won't listen.
