Newbie question but I'm going nuts. Brand new JD 4066R with H 180 FEL and 485A backhoe. When delivered the backhoe was on the tractor. I took it off and put it back on several times just to make sure I could do it. I haven't used it since. I went to put it on today and could not insert the pins that attach the backhoe to the tractor . There simply wasn't room between the tires and the frame (Pins are about 1/2" -3/4" too long). The manual is clear that the pins are to be inserted from the outside. The only thing that I can figure is that after taking the backhoe off the last time I had Rim Guard installed into the rear tires (3/4 full). Would the tires expand that much? I certainly don't want to waste the Rim Guard but also need to use the backhoe. I'm not sure if I understand how they work but would wheel spacers add clearance between the tires and the frame?

Is it possible when the tires were installed after being filled with Rim Guard the were installed in narrower position?

Or installed backwards if they are the type that flip to change width. Filling the tires should not expand them

The tires were not removed. The installer came here with a tank on the back of his truck and pumped the Rim Guard in.

is your air pressure the same as before the tires were filled?

Let the tires down to 20psi and all should be good.

Never notice any expansion on either of my machines.

many tractor rims. the center area were the bolts go through. is "offset" to one side. so you can swap tires around and either get a narrow overall width or a wider overall width. generally swapping tires side to side. to keep tread going in correct direction.

short video to remove backhoe then re-attach backhoe.

from looks in video the pins are not that long. just enough to stick through all of it and put on retainer clip.

It will have to remain a mystery then.

I'll double check the air pressure today. It had been at 24psi. I'll drop it to 20 psi.and try that

Maybe youre trying to put the pins in with the arms at a different height than you did before. Usually more room when the arms are down.

The the hitch has to be at it's highest (or nearly so) to have the holes on the backhoe match the holes on the tractor frame.

Having said that, when the Rim Guard was pumped into the tractor's rear tires the stem had to be at the 12:00 position. Rather than me drive forward or back a few feet, the installer used a jack to lift each side of the tractor till the wheel on that side was off the ground and then he rotated the tire into the 12:00 position. After filling the left tire he put it down and then did the same to the right tire. Today while I was trying to figure this out (reducing pressure to 20 psi didn't help, they were already at 22psi) I noticed that the rear tires now have a noticeable toe in (out?) difference. The bottom of each rear tire appears to be further out from the tractor than the top. That is, the tires appear canted so that they appear to lean into the tractor. The manual discusses measuring and adjusting toe in on the front tires but nothing about adjusting a cant on the rear tires. Could lifting the tires and adding weight (about 550 lbs/tire) affect the tires in this way. I believe if the tires were vertical (as opposed to canted) I'd have the necessary room to install the pins. Any suggestions?

it could also be sagging... you can add pressure to fix that

Sorry that lowering the psi, didn't help, but would not expect that it would if it was only at 22psi. I have seen all to often where the rear tires were at 30-35psi and then that would have made a difference. Have you driven the tractor around much since the tires were filled? Just wondering.

You are supposed to jack up rear and take weight off to fill with liquid.

If you are thinking the rim or axles bent all you need to do is drive it around and if it bucks you out of the seat - they are bent. If it doesn't, it's your eyes playing tricks.

Also, can you take some pictures of what you got going on here? Something will jump out and this mystery can be solved I am sure.

ill try to get pics tomorrow. Right now the rain has me thinking about plans for building an ark.

I've probably put 12-15 hrs on it since the tires were filled. It's not "bucking" me off off so don't believe that there is an issue with the axle.

If you hear a voice that says do so I would be gathering some gopher wood and get to building if I were you.

Jack up one side at the rear enough to get the tire off of the ground and see if the angle changes.

Be sure to block the other wheel so the tractor can't move.

Are you rear wheels loose or something? They should not be able to tilt like that unless something got bent (in which case taking it for a drive will let you know in a hurry)
