They were filled in my presence, on the tractor while jacked up. He estimated for me, before hand, that a 16.9-24 would take between 55 and 60 gallons to fill 3/4 way. I was told that Rim Guard weighs approx 11 lbs/gallon. I think the final figure was that I paid for a total of 112 gallons. My research on line indicates that 55-60 was a good estimate. Maybe my measuring this morning was off, I'll recheck. What isn't in dispute is that there is not enough clearance between tires and frame to insert the pins per the manual. I rechecked the 485A manual and there is no recommended mounting position for the wheels. It certainly won't hurt to remount the wheels in the 5th or 6th position as the added stability is always welcome even if Sussex County Delaware is as flat as a pancake. My old 18 ft trailer is too small for the tractor with the grapple and a Woods BB 720X rotary mower so I was looking at longer deck over trailers anyway.
Having said all that, I hooked up the backhoe after lunch (pins inserted from the inside position) dug a couple of stumps with no problem. Back to the house and no problem removing the backhoe. I should leave well enough alone but my OCD wants a new machine to operate the way the manual says it should.
