Thanks, sounds like caterpillar dozer transmissions I used to run.

Very similar. They usually had a "De-accelerator" pedal to push when changing direction that changed the engine speed from operating rpm to idle.

You ever got the turn signal lever in your truck while trying to change directions? I do all the time.

Yup, been there, done that, lots... Every time I come back from a shift doing snow removal. One pass of the route is about 800 shifts. Often we will do 2 or 3 passes per storm. Sometimes it takes a few days to get that out of your system.


I'm pretty sure these are all the same in their application from the driver's position:

Not sure of the GlideShift, but otherwise, yeah.

I love my Power Reverser; I have often wondered about how the learning curve would be with the newer hydro tractors, I understand they have come a long way. I think the biggest problem I would have would be if they are the same as operating a Skid Loader, i.e. the engine speed needs to be high to get the response, and if you get in a bind, you have to ease up on the pedal to get the torque in the machine. I have been used to getting more power from anything with a motor by giving more pedal (or a twist of the throttle) for far too many years to make the change; I have used a zero turn mower for years, and still have to remind myself on hills in heavy cutting to pull back on the handles!

I think the learning curve steepness goes both directions. I think HST operators would struggle at first with a Hydraulic Shuttle.

I bought a used Kubota RTV last Fall. I still struggle with it in steep terrain. I tend to bog down the engine because I'm pushing the pedal too far. On those the engine speed and HST speed is controlled with one foot pedal. So when it starts bogging down you tend to push the gas pedal farther to rev it up, which compounds the problem. First time operators really struggle with it!!!

My JD2210 is HST. I use it to mow grass and/or push snow. It is overpowered for it's size so I don't notice the pedal problem as much.

I solved part of the problem by having my garden tractor, compact tractor and tlb all having the same pedal configuration.

I spend a lot of time turned around looking at my box blade and making adjustments to it on the fly for tilt and depth, being able to control the travel with a hydro is very convenient. It allows me to adjust the box blade before proceeding further along the way. This goes on all day long while finish grading at high accuracy.

As a former finish dozer operator and new to box blades, high accuracy grading will bend my learning curve even further. But, I'm up for the challenge
