I'll bet you didn't hesitate either Roy. My 7 year old lab cost me 2 g's last winter. I know I didn't even think about it.

Nope...no hesitation whatsoever...

When it was time to let her go...had her head in my lap strokng her ears.

It's tough but good you were there to the end. That way they feel safe and loved. Me and my father have dug a few holes together. Crying and passing a scotch bottle toasting a lost friend.

Kudos to the responsible pet owners represented on this thread. I have no personal knowledge about the original story, but I know in my community there are a number of loose dogs that roam free. We also get the regular drop off. It's a lot of irresponsibility in my opinion. Do you know how difficult and costly it is to legally "dispose" of a stray animal?

I guess we've been lucky. The spreadsheet I keep on the chihuahua we've had about five and a half years shows that she's only cost us about $4,300 so far. And her last annual checkup and vaccinations only cost us $264.

Lucky? I guess so. Last year we had a 10 year old cat hospitalized for kidney disease and digestive problems (he has only one normal kidney and a tiny second one) and that cost us $1689, plus we had a 14 year old red tabby with liver cancer and his bill after he passed away was $2212, we had 3 younger cats ( 6 months to 2 years old) that cost another $133, $164, and $142. Total vet bills for 5 cats for the year was $4340. The ironic thing is, every one of these cats was adopted, two were taken in from people who didn't want them, the youngest two were rescued as kittens, and the middle one showed up at our door one cold night in mid-winter.

I must be a car nut, If you try to car jack me, I will run your butt over 5x if I have to.

I must be a knife nut, I will defend my family to the death with a knife if I have to.

If your dog is in my yard killing my cat, dog , or hurting anyone, I will shoot it until it quits moving.

Does all this make me a nut, or a man that thinks his family comes before your rabid pit bull....

Yes, I own a backhoe !:D:D:D

Per the police department, it was not considered neglect on the dog owners part due to the fact that the animal had broken it's lead being walked. Per the woman who shot the dog, the dogs owner was "right behind" the dog chasing after it, added the fact that the dog owner was trying to help separate the animals.

Yes, it was a nut who decided to describe the dog as rabid:laughing:

Lansing Michigan has a little more than 36 square miles with a population over 114,000. In contrast, the county I live in has over 350 square miles with a total population of around 35,000. It seems some people can't comprehend the fact that this case didn't happen "out in the country" where gun laws may be a little more lax for a reason.

Sounds like she shoulda shot the owner while she was at it. The "well it was dead anyway" remark is a sign of a sure a**hole. Like it didn't mean much anyway why are you worried about it.

I have dogs and a cat. Not a hater of either. But if you or your pets come on my property unwanted it is my decision what to do with you/it.

I had a Deer Gestapo... err.... Game warden up here use the same line. "Well it's just a cat" after I had her get caught in an illegal beaver trap behind my house. It was too close and above water. She disappeared for three days and then showed up with a leg that was dead and cold, which we paid to have removed.

I pulled all the offending traps and set them on my porch. They disappeared, turns out the warden showed up and took them, then returned and threatened me with a summons for removing them.

I said more than I should've said and finished it with "Then let him put the traps back where he had them. I can fix this problem without involving you and you will never prove what happened."

I had a torch that would've loved to turn a bunch of springs red hot. :D

Anyone ever notice the attitudes of some dog owners that have animals that attack and kill or maim is they never seem to give a **** since its someone else's dog or cat or kid etc and not their dog at fault the real culprit is THEM and they wont ever see it?

That mind set is a lot more problematic and widespread than a ricochet from a self defense weapon aimed at a threat.

That attitude is where the real problems are in our society no respect for life and its **** sure not the NRA's fault. my .02

I would guess that if the dog's owner in this particular case didn't give a ****, they wouldn't of run after the dog and tried to help.

What would of been interesting is if the dogs walker had stepped in between the lady with the handgun and the animal.

Yes, I know, to some, just blow em all away.
