Dowsing, Devining, 'Witching' for Water

/ Dowsing, Devining, 'Witching' for Water #42
I find it very intriguing to hear that it works for some people and not others. . .

BTDT.

About 4 years ago, I was over at my cousin's farm. He had a driller coming to drill a new water well. He took his witching rods and "found" the water. Repeated it from different directions. It was easy for him. Now, his brother was there, and he couldn't do it. However, his son (landowner's nephew) did it the first time he had ever tried it! I tried several times, but it didn't work for me either. When the driller arrived, my cousin told him to drill the new well at the spot he had marked. Hit a really good vein of water.

Both my dad, and grandfather could do it, but I never could. Go figure.

I can't explain it, but I've seen it work, time and time again.

The scientific explanation is most interesting and laughable at the same time. Reminds me of one of those swamp gas explanations for UFOs. Some people apparently use only apple branches which (I would think) can't compare to a highly conductive rod. Plus the targets are often so different and have totally differing electrical qualities, so I say NAY to the scientific and more likely to the SPOOKY notions!

Years ago I put a high end I Com VHF radio on my boat and every time one of the guys that fished with touched the mic it would switch to channel 16,with others it was fine. This same guy could only use a certain brand of battery powered wrist watch as the others wouldn't work. He was an equipment operator and said he always double checked the utility locators markings on a job site and pretty often found stuff they had missed. Some of us are just wired a little different and there is no explaining it scientifically.

Locating pipes in the ground with the L rods works on magnetism. It's a very slight magnetic field, but it's there. For those who know what a Schoenstadt locator is, I have used one for years to locate buried wells. I can also find buried wires that have quite a bit of amperage running through them. I can follow buried pipes because they give off different sounds from one end to the other because the magnetism is stronger at the ends than in the middle even though they are coupled together. I'm talking about galvanized pipes not plastic.

I have to say that anyone who says they can locate water in someones yard is so full of it because no matter where I drill I will have water when I'm done. And for those witches who can find water, why don't you tell us where water ISN'T so we can drill there and prove you wrong?

I've never tried but I've seen it done - and done successfully. The Public Works Dept in Anchorage, AK had a fellow that did it. I watched him many times find buried water lines and mains. They would always verify the location he found with their electronic equipment. He was always as close to the exact location as could be found with the electronics.

I've never seen anybody find a water vein for a well driller but there were several drillers in the Anchorage area that said they were around and did good.

I had a very good friend (Well Driller) who swore he could locate water with a forked stick. He would hold the stick in each hand with the y facing down and the main part of the branch pointing at a 45° upwards. He would wander around then you could see the stick start pulling down and he would twist the bark off in his hands. He was a pretty strong guy and by turning his hands inwards it appeared that the stick was being pulled down while in fact, he was doing it manually.

Try dowsing for buried gold or other precious minerals.

Go to the beach and dowse for lost coins, mark the locations and then test again with a metal detector, then dig to verify.

There may be some areas of the country where you will always 'strike' water. Here in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains that is not true. Any local well driller will tell you they cannot guarantee water. Now on the other hand if you bore 600 feet or more you're likely to hit it. In these parts that's an expensive endeavor.

You guys better not take those metal rods out in a boat, they might start spinning and lift you right off the boat.

It'e hard to believe someone believes this stuff.

Someone once told me, you just got to believe and it will work.

I even purchased some of those metal rods from a verified source and they promised me they would work if I would believe.

I really did try to believe, but alas, it was for naught.

I really don't know any body that used a special peach or apple stick and make it work.

I flew in P2's and P3 Navy aircraft for over 22 years looking for magnetic anomalies, and listening to and plotting underwater acoustics. .

The system cost thousands of dollars and worked sometimes because a large metal object would disturb the earths magnetic field, and that was based on a scientific principle. It also found wrecks and other unknowns which we could not identify.

I have looked at some of those YouTube videos and laughed till I cried at the bullshi* some of the people displayed. They could even tell if the body in the grave was male or female.

I can say, that a fella "witched" our well, and we were never low on water, EVER!, My NJ transplant neighbor (unfriendly city-iot )hired a guy to dig a well because he "buried" his well cover under an EXPENSIVE decorative sign he had built to "hide" it.

Anyway... he dug hole after hole and sunk tile after tile without success (telling the guy where HE wanted HIS well...) until he hugged our property line and dug next to mine.... I didn't bother telling the clown that there was very high amounts of iron in it,like,,, COFFEE brown... and watched him ruin his white siding and speed boat with a sprinkler

I'm not going to say the dowsing doesn't work.

But I'm also going to say that there isn't a single dowser in the world who's willing and able to prove he or she isn't a fraud.

"The James Randi Educational Foundation will pay US$1,000,000 (One Million US Dollars) ("The Prize") to any person who demonstrates any psychic, supernatural, or paranormal ability under satisfactory observation. Such demonstration must take place under the rules and limitations described in this document. An applicant can be from or in any part of the world. Gender, race, and educational background are not factors for acceptance. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally able to enter into binding agreements." The Million Dollar Challenge - JREF

Their challenge isn't that hard at all, if dowsing actually works. It's been around since 1964, and the prize has been steadily increasing from the $1000 Randi started with. And the Challenge isn't just for dowsing, but for any psychic, supernatural, or paranormal ability. Hundreds have tried, and not one has succeeded. By the way, if someone DID succeed, that one million would be pocket change; they'd be able to write their own checks, and pick and chose their jobs, simply from the publicity.

Very true. We used to have a piece of land up in North Carolina (Franklin) that had a 660' 6" well that produced a lot of water. It was rare for those parts. I know some people up there have wells deeper than that and can't hardly get Humidity out of them.

I had to fix the depth of that well. I had 60' and it was really 660'.

Most the old timers would just laugh at the offer in disbelief. To them this internet nonsense is hokes pokes. i never tried dowsing with the proper limbs, but getting wires to cross over a buried pipe i can do any day. I dont expect anyone would pay a million to see it.

Well, I'll be trying this in a couple weeks. I have a 1/2 mile water line I need to locate so I know where to disc a fire lane and NOT hit the water line...

I'll post results :)

On this property I'm living there is no wells 3 have been dug by the old hammer drill method around 1920 then my parents purchased the property 1948 needed a well and hired a man to dig well he drilled down to hard slate and dry hole.
Yet there is springs on this property running a constant flow of drinkable water Had a man water witch and he agreed no water then told him about the old dry wells. he crossed over them and never had a feeling there was water.
For the cattle I have built dams across the area below the springs and they stay full of water.

I don't know but maybe there is something about witching a well but also found out they can say no water also.

I recall one of those old TBN threads where we suggested they go for the prize... got the "I don't need to prove anything" response.

Yep, I don't want no stinking million bucks. either.:) I can tell you this Moss, If I thought I could find water with a peach tree limb or a set of coat hangers, .... well... 'nuff said.

....

I use 2x 18" copper rods, loosely held parallel to the ground. My elbows are in close to my body. I then clear my mind, relax, think about flowing water and then slowly walk along.
...

If I did that I'd have to pee in about 30 seconds.

We don't have too many uses for dowsers here in northern Indiana. As someone mentioned, pretty much anywhere you dig a hole, you'll find water if you go deep enough. Every credible study has proven dowsing no more effective than random chance.
IndianaGroundWater.JPG

To anyone that believes in it and thinks they can do it, etc... man-up and take that challenge and win a million dollars. I would enjoy nothing more than witnessing something amazing. I've seen some pretty weird stuff in my life (sometimes even while sober), but it all could be explained. Step up. Sign up for the challenge. Win a million dollars. Become a celebrity. Make even more money and donate it all to the charity of your choice. Why not?
