Dump Trailer prices

So, I am kinda always browsing for good deals, and in particular, I try to keep an eye on dump trailers, not that I really Need one, but I could definitely Use one. New, I can't justify the cost, you can pay delivery fees a hundred times over, and also it's often cheaper then making 8 trips and the fuel needed. But, they are also a handy thing to have, from hauling debris, to picking up a couple yards of millings/limerock/whatever. So, am I crazy or do Used ones fall into two categories; $2-4k and used slap up; or new price+/-10% and half used up. The ad that prompted this rant is below; there is literally no deck remaining; tail gate is gone and replaced with a mesh gate, plywood over the missing metal, and still $2500; all that, and it's still just a 6x12

Is this a regional thing, or does the entire country with used dump trailers assume they are made of gold

No its nation-wide. Dump trailers and trailers in general are just over-priced.
A good condition, used trailer that is road-worthy should cost about 50-70% the cost of a new one.
But most of the ones I see are like 10-20% lower than the cost of a NEW one!
I found a nice used Diamond-C 20K dump trailer and the guy wanted $25,000. A new one was $30K.

I mean, if I have to re deck the bottom, replace tires, maybe bearings, battery, pump, hoses, or cylinder; you could really quickly get into another $3000. I wondered if we didn't have an inflated price down here from small time "debris contractors"?

I have considered going the ag wagon route, and adding a pump. I know they aren't "DOT", but you can register them as homemade trailers. It's not a priority, and I know it's not cost effective, but I do like being able to work on my own schedule, and not deal with fitting into a trucking companies schedule.

Nah it’s the same nonsense up here.

In PA, dump trailers are a great choice. No engine or transmission or complicated things to fix and registration is like $20. They are one of the last equipment “bargains” to run.

The 10x5 dump trailer I paid $3,900 for new at dealer in 2022 is $6.200 now.

With the inflation rate of construction materials being at around 151% the new $3900.00 trailer in 2022 that is $6,200 now, is pretty close to the value one should expect.
$3,900 x 1.51 = $5,889.00.
Seems like stealing money through inflation.

Yes you're competing with "small time debris contractors" on that trailer.

I'm pretty sure i have the same trailer EZ-Dumper. I really like it because its exact same width as my truck.
My mirrors line up with the sides.
And I can even see the far side wheels (track) under the trailer, in the mirrors because its up high.

It's no fun shoveling into a high trailer though.
You want to use hydraulics to fill it.

I paid $4000 for it when it was 20 years old, but its in real nice condition. It's 6x10, holds 3 yards. I bet my EZ dumper was $2500 new in 1998.
