East Coast: Hurricane Florence

Already heard of two families I personally know that decided to “ride it out”. One is doing okay, the others have now had to be rescued as flood waters rose too high.

They have overhyped every hurricane as long as i remember, occasionally they get one right...but not this one.

This weatherman can hardly stand up against the wind, but watch what happens in the top right at about 15 seconds.

Apparently our local TV station had to send 2 reporters down so that they could be filmed in the wind and the rain. Another reason why I consider reporters to be one level below ambulance chasing lawyers in the overall scheme of things.

The 'Business' of Weather is where it all went wrong, whether or not you believe that.

Loooong ago - News and Weather did not have to compete with the other programs on TV. They were considered - "an overall benefit to the community". Then some wise ***** bean counting executive decided that News and Weather had to generate funds to support their programing. When News & Weather became a business - it all went to #### in a hand basket.

Sigarms - "move to higher ground" - YES, that would be the logical thing to do. However - many government assistance programs make any move quite difficult. And some give added funding if you rebuild in the exact same location.

Its the old theory - if you do the wrong thing often enough - you are bound to come out correct once. WRONG

Short story - - News reporter interviewing homeowner whose house just got flooded from rising creek. Asked - "why don't you rebuild back there on higher ground?" Answered - "Well, the government provides no funding if I relocate and beside this being the fourth time I've had to rebuild at this exact location - I'm going to modernize my kitchen with these government funds also."

This was just one of many homes flooded when - as it does every spring - Campbell Cr once again overflowed its banks. Campbell Cr runs right smack dab thru the center of Anchorage.

This was actually broadcast on local TV - Channel 4 - Anchorage, AK - spring of 1976.

This is from the same lame channel that uses a gimmick of naming winter storm systems (which the NWS advises against)...
