Re: Ed\'s Pictures of 425 and attachments

This is exactly what I spoke to Sean about when visiting them. I needed a backhoe at the time but was not willing to sacrifice the low profile and more hill ready 425 and 1430 models. Ended up purchasing a Kubota BX22 on the trip home from the power trac plant with plans of purchasing a used 425 in the future. Power Trac may be hesitant to offer a backhoe like this because of the potential to hurt sales of the 2400 series. It really shouldn't because I can see your configuration as mainly a light duty backhoe solution due to tractor weight which would suit most homeowners just fine.

Re: Ed\'s Pictures of 425 and attachments

This one shows the 60 inch mower with the new rear roller I installed to get a stripe pattern - It really does cut well
I also cut a hole in the back to fit the custom boot I had made
I have not put together the rest of the vacuum yet

I will post a picture of the boot hopefully tomorrow
as well as a close up of the roller and quick height adjust
I used a bolt for that because I didn't have a pin around
but I will replace it with a pin so it adjusts in one minute

Re: Ed\'s Pictures of 425 and attachments

This is the shaft and slicer blades - I install this using the core aerator frame with a hydraulic motor coupled to it
(I will post a picture of this) I decided to purchase an extra frame from Power Trac so I don't have to share it with the
aerator - It works great to remove thatch or slice the turf for overseeding -

I only used it once but the shiny steel blades started to rust from moisture - I am going to try chain oil on them

Ok the slicer photo is still too big - I will have to work on that one - Here is another shot of the backhoe - I have to post some more tomorrow

Re: Ed\'s Pictures of 425 and attachments

Ed,

First, great job.

1) What is the weight of the backhoe attachment? Does the PT carry it around okay
2) Is the hydraulics fast enough working off of the aux PTO. When the backhoe is not taking any hydraulic flow, does the aux PTO lift the relief valve or is there continuous flow back to the reservoir?

Re: Ed\'s Pictures of 425 and attachments

Here is the slicer attachment shaft - see above for description

Duane - I would guess it to be around 400-450 - the machine has no problem with it - you just can't jerk it down - you have to be smooth with the controls as with any heavy weight

As far a power - the Aux has plenty - it is the same flow it operates with when mounted to the 2425 - I checked that
with Terry - it is plumbed off the Aux on that machine

As for the relief etc - I am not really sure - when you turn it on without operating the backhoe - it bogs some then comes back up right away - maybe that is the relief valve opening? that would flow back to tank right? - I plan on tapping into the Aux for other things as well since I only use one thing at a time
like the power dump hopper for the grass catcher

Re: Ed\'s Pictures of 425 and attachments

Great job on the pictures!

That back hoe looks right at home on the PT. A few questions...

1. That is the stock backhoe from the 2425, correct? What is the reach out, depth of hole straight down and lift up height to the best of your knowledge?

2. Did you have to mount the quick attach plate to it, or was that standard for the rear of the 2425?

3. So you just drive up, hook the quick attach, pull the locking cylinder lever, set the brake, get off, switch the two locking cylinder hoses to the back hoe, get back on , release the brake, lift a little and drive away? That's it? 30 or 40 seconds?

4. You mentioned that you hook the Aux PTO/quick attach handle and that supplies hydraulics to the hoe. How do you hook it and is it always in the up position?

Last one:
5. Is that the way they do it on the 2425 or are there rear hydraulic outlets that require no valve operation to get power to the hoe?

Sorry for all the questions, but you are the first with a full hoe on a PT400 series that I've seen. Thanks for sharing, but curses for making me want to spend more money /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Ed\'s Pictures of 425 and attachments

Nice roller! Do you get any marks on the lawn when turning tight? My plastic wheels sometimes skid sideways when doing this?

What is the roller made out of? Adjustment system looks great, too.

Re: Ed\'s Pictures of 425 and attachments

This is too cool. You've got the 2425 backhoe attached to the quick attach on a 400...I like it. I guess I didn't realize that the 2425 has a quick attach on the back as well, and that's how you attach the backhoe...duh.

Very cool!
