Moss
Im gonna build a box and put the batterys on my back rack of an atv
Ive rolled the arch over with a large log and a sidehill, but the hitch is designed not to roll the atv too .this is why i want them on the atv. I have 5 different atvs i can simply switch the box from one to another.i have used it from behind the bota too ,but its hard to get around in my woodlots with the bx and cab

Will you be using the Warn for long pulls or mostly to drag the log a few yards then hoist it? What size Warn?
I had been using an 8000lb Warn with a radio controller on my tractor but I find that with someone to help its faster to get the tractor within chain length of the log and then skid it out, hoisting the butt with the 3pth

Yep. Anderson connectors work well.
Why are you removing the batteries from the arch on a regular basis? Theft protection, perhaps? Just curious.

You could put a battery isolator in your setup. It charges the battery from the tow vehicle, but won't allow the tow vehicle's battery to get discharged by the winch (battery).

The battery tender cable may not be large enough to handle the charge current.

This is just a solenoid, so it only protects the ATV battery when the ignition switch is off, that may work OK for the way you use it.

I understand now, about rolling the arch and such.

Those connectors will work real well if you put one on each ATV.

I don't know about that. I'd think you'd want some beefier cables. The battery tender is probably a lot less amps than the alternator on your ATV, isn't it?

Still can't figure out why he is so dead set against connecting the ATV charging system to the winch battery? Less weight on the ATV, less room required and lower costs to use one battery.

Since were talking "winches" does anyone use those nylon cable's as opposed to wire?
Are they just as good as cable?

Supposed to be better, but they are not nylon.

Spydura synthetic winch rope is constructed of a unique ultra high molecular weight polyethylene material and offers high abrasion resistance and tremendous tensile strength.

It has been on my wish list for a long time, but I don't use the winch enough to justify the high cost.

And it can't be used with a roller fairlead, it has to be this kind.

I've read on the 4x4 off road forums that synthetic winch cable is also sold for marine applications. Sailboats, maybe. Anyway, it can allegedly be had from a marine supplier for considerably less $$. Now you know as much as I do.
