Yes, house fires are down as respects electrical fires. I am sure this has more to do with discontinuing the use of aluminum wire for houses then safety receptacles.
Ground fault and tamper resistant receptacles are not required for prevention of fire ... it is to reduce physical injury due to shock.
Many view these devices the same as seatbelts on tractors. You know ... they are there for a reason and so you should always use them or never had them when I was a kid and they only get in they way.
The reality with either is they work good in theory and sometimes in practice, but everyone has their own experiences and opinions.
