I've been slowly finishing part of my basement and have all of the outlets wired and am working on the lights. Is it possible to have a single pole switch that works two lights and tap that right into the middle of a run of outlets? Do I have to have the switch and lights at the end or beginning of the circuit? I have a fairly basic electrical book but couldn't find any circuit examples like that in it.

Be sure all is in parallel and hot (black wire) connected to copper screws, Neutral (white wire) to silver screws, and ground (green) to green screws. Be sure to have the switch in series with the HOT line. See attachment.

Grant,
Yes you can do that. In my barn I wired it myself too. I put the one end of the barn one switch and control four lights with it and the other switch I control four lights with. As far as putting it in series with outlet boxes you are fine. Just hook up your live wire and ground to the switch and run another wire to the light you want to work.

Although It looks like the orginal question has been answered. I will say that black and decker has a nice electric wiring book that can be found at most home improvement stores. While it has a lot of planning and background info in it the part I use the most is common wiring diagrams. About 30 or so common wirring solutions. Color coded diagrams. I never can rememeber how a 3way light swich is wired.

You sure can do that. Skent's diagram shows how it would work very well. I might suggest that you get a 4x4 box, and have a pair of outlets and the light switch co-located in the 4x4 box.
