Emergency - dead coffee pot.

Terry...if the EMERGENCY goes beyond tolerance, I recommend the "k-i-s-s" solution: Take one heaping tablespoon of Fast Ones instant coffee by mouth followed by a cup of tolerably hot water. Swish briefly and swallow. Repeat as necessary. Accept no substitutes.

So what's that Cuisinart run?

Something funny that I've noticed is that a 10-cup brewer runs (usually) around 30-50 dollars, but a 12-cup runs 60-100 dollars. Since my wife & I only typically drink a couple cups a day, a 10-cup is plenty. On the occasions when we have company, pull out a second 10-cup unit. You end up with 20 cups of coffee for the price of a 12-cup maker. Plus, as an added bonus, you have a spare if unit #1 goes east.

Thomas - no close encounters of the third kind, but close... /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

LazyK - Instant coffee and tolerable hot water huh... crunchy coffee. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Glueguy - At the Prime Outlet mall in Hagerstown, it's $99. The list price is $150. The model number is DCC-1200. Plug that into your favorite search engine and you'll get a few hits. I searched the web and found the lowest price at $89 plus shipping and handling. So, it's pretty close to a wash as far as I'm concerned. We have owned a few cuisinart appliances and they are well made so that helped with the decision.

Go to the Gavalia website and sign up for one of there monthly coffee programs ( they actualy have excellant coffee ) and the will send you a FREE Krups coffee maker. Last time I checked they were offering a coffee maker with a insulated pot. For you thirsty TBN'rs this will keep your brew hot for hours without picking up that old and burnt taste.
You may have seen the adds for this on TV. You can cancell the coffee program at any time, even immediatly after receiving the initial order and the coffee maker. I have had my Gavalia (Krups) maker for 8 years now and it has brewed ALOT of coffee. It is a great way to get an excellant coffee maker and a couple of pounds of great coffee for around
$10 - $15. Who knows, you may like the coffee so much you won't want to cancell.

I learned about the difference between cone and flat configurations after we got our last coffee pot (a Procter Silex), which has a flat filter. At the time, I figured I would just get a cone-shaped version when this one dies. That was ten years ago. Maybe we will make this one the backup...
