Equifax has zero interest in your security. They have no reason to.

Yeah, supposedly the exploit was already under active use 4 months(!) before disclosure: Massive Equifax hack reportedly started 4 months before it was detected | Ars Technica

Never liked companies where "you" are the product(see Facebook/et-all), their incentives are not aligned with keeping your data secure.

Not surprised about the exploit 4 months before disclosure ... can you spell INCOMPETENCE? The credit bureaus have the same business model as the hackers, steal your data then sell it... both are vultures fighting over the same data spoils.

I froze mine at all 4 credit agencies. The fourth one is Innovis. I didn't know about this one until I read several articles about the problem.

I did the same. Apparently there is the Big 3 who work together and Innovis is the red-headed stepchild the others ignore? :confused3:

I also found out about the other one too and both my wife & I got freezes at all 4.

That is good stuff, but for the more technologically inept, do any of you have the numbers needed to freeze credit accounts on the four data basis and could you share them?

You can do it on line at their web sites. Experian: Check Your Credit Report & FICO(R) Score | Experian (888-397-3742). Innovis: Innovis Home. (800-540-2505). Equifax: Equifax | Credit Bureau | Check Your Credit Report & Credit Score Transunion: Credit Scores, Credit Reports & Credit Check | TransUnion (816-447-7559). Look for "Freeze credit report" shortcut somewhere on the page or at bottom. easy to do.

Nothing is going to happen to those hackers. They were just doing the job they were trained to do by the Chinese government (which isn't going to take the blame). Discretion is the better part of valore when "going after" China. They have the financial and military capability to destroy the USA in the minutes. BTW on the news last night they reported no evidence the stolen Equifax data has been used by China yet. They speculated the data will be used for recruiting spies and other nefarious endeavors rather than defrauding the 143,000,000 victims.

This morning on the news, they speculate that the peoples info will be sold on the black market for YEARS. Equifax has said they have improved the security now and people can feel safe. Oh, OK. That makes me feel better.
