F250 motor swap, 7.3 diesel

Talked to a co-worker today, who is also a 7.3 PSD nut like myself. He thinks the housings are the same, so swapping the guts from one HPOP to the other should work. I'll start by removing the one that's FUBAR, and scope it out... gonna have to scrape up the cash for HPOP gaskets now, time to talk to my financial advisor when she's done cleaning up from dinner...

Back stepping a little...

Made a quick HPOP line tool out of an old weedeater nylon finger to release the quick connect fittings. Based on this, it worked poorly, but worked, took about 5 minutes to make, and cost me nothing.

Tonight, I only had a few minutes to spare, but pulled out the '03 HPOP. You can see the heli-coil, and buggered threads...

No progress... kinda depressed about the HPOP issue, and have been busy with other things, like the tractor mods.

Probably just use the 15° HPOP as-is, been thinking about the whole mess as I trip over/walk around the motors in the barn, and walk past the motor-less truck outside every day.

Just happened on your build - good read. Looking forward to the completion, however long it may take. I usually have time or money, but rarely both at the same time, so I understand your delays. I have an '02 Excursion with the 7.3 with a little over 200k on it. We love it.

Haven't forgotten about this thread...

Been doing some cleaning up in the barn, with the goal being getting back to this project. I did remove the 15° HPOP from the old motor the other day. I made the mistake of leaving the ports uncapped, so I have no idea how much dirt/dust got inside. Hoping a good flush with fresh oil will clean it out well enough, will turn it over by hand while doing so, to force oil thru it.

Gotta get this done.

I put the HPOP in the bench vice, spun the input shaft with a cordless drill, and a funnel guided oil into the pump... put enough thru for now, will re-flush before install and after the new orings are installed in the quick disconnect (STC) fittings.

Still thinking of swapping 17° guts, but can't find pictures or parts diagrams ANYWHERE. Anybody got any ideas or links?

Spent about an hour and a half and finally got the turbo rebuilt. Was reasonably easy...

Fuel bowl next, as it's sitting on the bench next to the turbo...

I disassembled the fuel bowl last night, and took it to work today to clean in the parts washer... and left it there, forgot to grab it at quitting time. Reassembly should go easy, I made sure I have all the orings needed last night.
