Made more progress today...



A/C condenser tied up without disconnecting the lines and loosing the freon, radiator out, fan and shroud out, intercooler tubes, battery cables, glow plugs feed, all disconnected. Hot as he!! out in the barn today, 95° in the shade... box fan blowing on me the whole time, still dripping with sweat. Sure made a few cold beers taste great!

Wife has to work tonight, so she's napping for a bit while I watch our youngest (2 yo) daughter, who liked the napping idea... on my lap, snoozing. Maybe more tomorrow.

Just found your thread. Looks like it's coming along nicely!

I have 2002 Excursion, rust free from down south a couple years ago. Done a couple of things, but didn't paint my oil cooler when I rebuilt it earlier this year ;)

I got the 2 orings I need for the EBPV solenoid in the mail today. My hat is off to Bob at dieselorings.com. Not ordering the orings was my oversight, but he sent them to me free of charge. He is a great guy to deal with, and also very knowledgeable about the 7.3's. I spoke to him at great lengths a little over a year ago when I was dealing with the '00/'03 motor install for my friend.

I've gotten stuff from Bob, too. I broke my EBPV solenoid electrical connector with my "fat fingers" and had to put in a replacement ASAP. I had no problem getting orings at my local hydraulic supply shop. They matched them up, about $2 because he actually charged me this time ;)

Something to keep in mind when it gets late in the barn :)

Put in a few more hours today... top side is ready, alternator and power steering pump and bracket off, A/C pump and bracket off, down pipe loose, starter out...

All that's left is bell housing bolts, motor mount bolts, and EGT probe in the left manifold. Might have it out later tonight, after I get back from town...

I ended up lifting the front of the cab/core support about 7", made all the difference in the world in access to bell housing bolts and removal of the engine.





And it's out... with the extra room above the motor, there was plenty of room to clear the turbo against the cowling, and motor mounts to the cross member.

Got the truck out of the barn, and started stripping the old motor. Got the clutch apart... it had been working fine when I last drove the truck, never slipped that I know of, even on the higher HP settings (120hp 'race' tune), and having done some heavy towing (24k GCVR per scale). Minor heat spots on both flywheel and pressure plate.





Got the wiring harness, fuel lines, fuel filter bowl, and oil cooler off...

The wiring harness doesn't look like much laying on the floor...

Guessing it's the original clutch, so 212k. I didn't think it looked bad either...

A little bummed out...

Worked on stripping the old motor today, valve covers off, Injectors and glow plugs out, HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump) lines off.

Tried taking the HPOP fittings out of the HPOP on the donor motor, and one is buggered up. Looks like it's been heli-coiled, and was leaking. Wanted to use that HPOP, as it's the later model 17°, not the 15° that is in the old motor. Looks like I'll have to swap that too, or... put the 17° guts in the 15° housing, if that can even be done. I dunno...

Bummer. Things like that always happen to me. You'll attack it with renewed vigor tomorrow!! :)
