F250 motor swap, 7.3 diesel

Haven't done anything with this in 3 weeks... kinda frustrating, busy with my barn project. Cut my hours back at work again, but that means the wife has been working more, which keeps me in the house more, on daddy duty.

Someday things will happen...

I may be filing in for you, on my 94 F350 I pulled the bed, replaced the shower heads in the tanks, am replacing the fuel selector valve, putting in a Facet pump to replace the lift pump and cursing the Ford engineers the whole way.

You will get back to it soon enough.

No progress in months. Hope to pick up the '03 long block from my buddy soon... maybe this weekend.

Thanks for the cyber back-pat, Richard.

However, I'm a bit pumped... I did manage to stop at my buddy's on the way by there today, and the motor is now setting in the back of my truck. It was the first stop of meny... dropped the oldest boy off at our yard mowing job so he could get started, picked up dads MF12 baler we used last week at that farm, and returned it to his farm, took my truck up the road to the local garage for a state safety inspection sticker, stopped in to see my father-in-law for a bit, and then back to help finish the yard... motor is just sitting there, waiting to get unloaded, likely tomorrow. Ol' dually ride a little smoother with an extra 1000 lbs in the back... *grin*

Not much to look at, and confusing at that... I borrowed a heavy duty motor stand as well, and have the motor sitting on that, backwards, not mounted by bell housing bolts as it normally would be.





The empty valley... barren without the turbo, intake spider, fuel bowl and lines, HPOP lines disconnected...



Rear view... note old spark plug wires used to cap exposed fuel and HPOP fittings... I used anything I could find to seal it up when I removed this motor from my buddies truck a year and a half ago.

Got the flywheel and trans adapter off, and the motor properly mounted to the motor stand last night, and the valve covers off tonight. Pulled the injectors and glow plugs, and drained the fuel and oil rails. About an hour and a half all together....

Some of the forum guys are painting their valleys white so they can spot leaks easier down the road.

Not likely to paint anything... but want to get the motor pulled out of the truck, to start swapping over what parts I can. Down side is tractor will have to sit outside while the truck is inside...

Maybe I'll get to that this weekend... fingers crossed.

I did get the truck into the barn last night, with the help of my wife and both tractors...

The plan is pull the motor, and move the truck back outside. Get the new motor ready to put in, then bring the truck back in.

New motor, on the stand, Thursday night. Valve cover removed, under valve cover harness and gasket removed



Valve cover gasket and harness detail. 2 wire plug with bail clip for each injector, white wire plug for glow plugs.



Injectors and glow plugs from right cylinder bank, AD code Injectors. Left bank rear most injector is in this case an AE code, or 'long lead' injector, common on later 7.3's.



Last night, Kinda cramped in the barn once you stuff the truck in there



Hood, bumper, grill off, got in as far as the intercooler last night.
