My youngest son (almost 9 yo) and I were in the barn, discussing this project and looking at the donor motor. Pulled the oil pan off, and looking at cylinder bores, cross-hatch marks are still clearly visible despite 378k miles of rings rubbing them. Assuming an average speed of 60 MPH at 2000 rpms, (very conservative in my book) that's 7,560,000 revolutions! And since the rings slide over any given area twice each revolution, that's 1.5 billion times... and still visible cross hatch marks! Amazing!

Metals used over the past twenty years are so much harder than those used previously. That's to our benefit. Extends lifespan. Negates the need for extensive break-in procedures. Minimizes seepage past the rings into the bottom end which contaminates the oil. Much smaller tolerances which reduces the likelihood of an engine beating itself to death. All good!!!!

When your Son is my age (65) he will remember this discussion. :)

This project may have just gotten a boost... (pun intended!) Found out the pinion bearings in my other truck (F350 dually, Dana 80 rear) is going out, seal leaking, noticeable play at yoke. Diff bearing kit $477. Ouch.

I'm thinking I can get the motor in the F250 easier... for the same money or cheaper.

Got the last things ordered last night, primarily the HPOP to block gasket, the first thing holding up this project. Also got some other orings, and miscellaneous items needed. Shipped out today, might see it by Saturday.

Need to get flywheel turned, ment to drop it off today, but forgot... maybe tomorrow.

Flywheel has been turned, parts shipped and received. Cleaned up the 15° HPOP last night, and put the new orings in the HPOP line fittings, both the ones on the pump, and the heads. HPOP is now ready to bolt into place.

Cleaned out the motor valley over the weekend, and put the HPOP in tonight, as well as the fuel bowl. Got the fuel lines (from fuel bowl to heads) painted, as they need to go in next, they pass under the turbo pedestal.

Tonight's progress included cleaning/flushing the fuel rail in the right side head, the fuel line inlet fitting and screen, replacing the end plug banjo bolt orings, and installing the fuel line from the fuel bowl to that head inlet fitting, with new orings. The injectors are currently removed, and close inspection of the rear-most injector cup shows a possible crack, but difficult to see, deep inside the injector bore. I wish I could pressure test the coolant jacket easily... but no fuel or oil was present in the coolant when this motor was removed, by me, over 3 years ago. Fingers crossed...

Can you Dykem it or the like? Hate to get it all back together and then come back apart. BTDT too many times...

Dykem? Elaborate please... a quick Google search didn't readily reveal how I could use it, I'm open to suggestions and ideas!
