Made it thru the 7 nights of 12 hour shifts, thru the cookout with parents and in laws yesterday, and finally got to the barn today and fixed the compressor. Pressure switch contacts had welded together, cleaned them, installed a true motor starter relay with overloads, so the actual load on the compromised pressure switch is only the starter coil, not full motor amprage. If only I had done that 7 years ago, when dad told me to, and handed me a box of parts... they sure were dusty! Still in the box? Pressure regulator and water separator.... maybe someday!

Happy Father's day to all you dads out there...

Got the second new water pump on, due to a broken tap in one of the thermostat holes that i thought needed chased. Lucky, parts store buddy swapped it out quick and easy. Thermostat in, new housing I made fit perfect, after a little die grinder work to clear thermostat.

Got the motor off the stand to start clutch assembly. Finally opened the clutch, been sitting on te shelf in the box for a year and a half! Mad at myself, minor surface rust on pressure plate surface that mates to friction disk. It cleaned off easy enough, steel wool and wd40.

Sh** Greg, I wouldn't have even been able to find the clutch assembly after a year and a half!!!!! :)

Richard, to the common observers, my barn would appear to be as you imply yoyrs might be, impossible to find anything if you sit it down for more than say, 5 minutes? However, as I cant get my wife to understand, its organized chaos. I can mostly find what I need, the day after I need it.

I am really close... Once the clutch is bolted to the flywheel its ready to drop in the truck. Im off the next 2 days, then work Wednesday and Thursday, and off the weekend. Good chance I'll get it in the truck this weekend.

Slept for a few hours after I got home from work this morning and made it out to the barn in the afternoon. Got the clutch on, the truck into the barn, and after dinner, managed to get the motor in the truck. Not a single bolt holding it in, but it's sitting in the chassis. Now I gotta find bell housing bolts, motor mount nuts, etc.

Nice Greg! I've been watching this thread for a long time with a sense of awe and dread. You make these things look easy.

Got an e-350 van for use as a family camping van and hauler since the old ranger just can't tow a tractor. It's one of those where you remove the bell in the cab to get to 70% of the engine and lord help you if you have to get to the other 30%. Your pic make me think if push comes to shove I can just drop the radiator to get to major stuff. Thanks for the pictures and he comments then help other shadetree mechanics like me

My shops are a mess too, but I normally find the tool the day after I buy it's replacement.

If it's like my '88 there are some things, like changing the glo plugs, that may require dropping the engine a bit. I've 2 plugs I couldn't get to easily :(
