I used to have an 7.3 in an E350 utility box van when I had my electrical service company. Great to work out of, not so great to work on... only thing I ever did was put a water pump on it, even that was a pain, fan sits much tighter to both the pump and the radiator. I like the superduty trucks so much better. Never pulled a motor out of a van, don't want to. Even on my truck, I took the front and middle body mount bolts out and lifted the core support about 6" for cowl and cross member clearance. If not, the turbo or motor mounts must be removed from the block.

More progress today... bell housing bolts were right where I left them, in the battery tray. Nevermind I spent 30 minutes looking in every coffee can I could find, box, or even tool box drawer... bottom side stuff is done. Bell housing, motor mounts, starter and wires, trans cooler (yes, the 6spd manual trans has a cooler) lines, flywheel cover, and exhaust down pipe... all done. Body back down on the mounts and bolted tight.

My shops are a mess too, but I normally find the tool the day after I buy it's replacement.(

i do this regularly as well. talk about irritating...

i worked on my passat once and couldn't find my favorite socket wrench, a long extension, and a 10mm socket. i looked everywhere, and ended up buying replacements. about 10,000 miles later (two oil changes) i happened to look down the front of the engine and there was my wrench, extension, and socket. it had fallen down into the pulley system, found a stable resting place on a bracket, and was slowly wearing away the accessory drive belt. the extension was worn about a third of the way through and the belt isn't very pretty, but it all still works.

i took a trip to california and back in that car with that socket setup sitting in the middle of the accessory drive system. i drive 4 miles on gravel roads every time i go into town. i've bounced over ruts of snow, ice, frozen mud, and heaven knows what else. stomp down amazing that i didn't lose it.

My Son wrenches for a living. He's diligent about using a tool cart. Puts every tool he needs on the cart and completes the job. Then inventories the cart when he's done before backing the vehicle out of the shop.

A little more progress this morning. Power steering pump and Alternator in place, AC pump, and serpentine belt on... intercooler tubes in place, and would have had radiator hoses in place if I'd found new hose clamps. No way I'm putting those stock spring bands back. Getting as much hooked up and in place before the radiator, intercooler, and AC condenser go in place, hate working over top of them. So far, going smoothly. Shower and bed time now, gotta work the next 2 nights.

That one brought a sympathetic smile to my face.:D

How many times we done that........

I think the real question is more like... How many times have we "NOT" done that, because most of the time we do that. It is the rare time when we don't do that, that is makes us smile!

I agree David. My shop walls are lined with stuff that I "put away" to be used later......
