Off work for 4 days... Finally feeling a little better... mostly fever free last night and today... got our pool set up yesterday. I finally spent some time on the motor again today. Couple little things, like putting the idler pulleys on, and the water pump pully. Spent about 3 or 4 hours to save $15 on a thermostat housing. Stock one was quite rusty, wasn't leaking when removed, but I didn't want to chance it. Aftermarket billit aluminum ones can be had for about $65. I made one on that style, 1/4" steel plate, scd 40 galvanized pipe, gotta be better than $15 stamped steel repop part.
Did I save money? No way. Did I make a part out of junk I had and have nothing more than my time on a lazy Holiday weekend and hone my skills a shade more? Likely. Fun shop tinker time... interrupted by the wife's ex, and his vehicle troubles, but I help him when I can...
The real reason? I want a $35 thermostat instead of a stock $12 one... "look honey, I made this and saved $15, put that toward the $35, with the $12, about even, right?"
