F250 motor swap, 7.3 diesel

Jim, glad you joined the 7.3 club... feel free to ask me anything about them, I have a little experience with them and alot of pictures to share...

Otherwise... this may take a while... been sitting for almost a year as it is, and likely be end of summer before I wrap it up. Too many things going on to devote much time to it... I had to replace the fuel bowl drain valve orings on the Excursion earlier today... hoping that stops a fuel smell we've been noticing, valley has a mix of fuel and oil in it. Can't tell where from.

So far, I'm glad I did too! This truck has a couple maintenance issues, but she goes down the road nice, and pulls like a mule but drinks diesel like a miser.

a new diesel 3/4 ton pickup is well over $50,000 these days. a 7.3 doesn't make nearly that much power, but will run for a long time. i've got a 97 F250 myself and my truck will run at least as long as i will.

Must be located outside of the rust belt. A 17yr old truck around here is rusted full of holes.

Welcome to the club. We have one that i havent mentioned, Were you able to find a rust-free pickup?

Left side rocker has been patched, right side is rust free. Bed has holes in the floor, but a flatbed has been the "ideal" from the get go, so I don't really care.

Frame is flawless, as is the rest of the hard parts. I'm going to go through the front end this week and see if it needs anything (one brake is hanging just enough to dust the wheel, but not get it warm) so I'll probably do lines just because.

Power windows/locks, and very clean cloth interior.

Probably paid a bit much for it, but I'm happy.

Rust is an issue here too... but the chassis of the truck the motor is going into is reasonably good.

I got about 2 hours in today... put the oil cooler together,

put the new pluger/piston assembly in the turbo pedestal,

and found that the rebuild kit does not include orings for the EBPV solenoid.

I also got the exhaust side of the turbo apart, the bolts holding it together were TIGHT.

I know that there are a bunch of variables, but what is a "clean" 2001 F-350 7.3 A/T CC/8' with >200k worth in YOUR part of the country? Only minor minimal rust with nothing showing through. It got a NOS complete bed for it and I park it under roof all winter long. (next to my F-450 4x4 7.3) I've been hanging on to it because I like it, but also (in my mind) it's becoming a classic. It just seem's a little silly keeping it insured and tagged for 1000 or so miles a year.
You guy's got me wondering with some of your stories of looking for a 7.3. This pic is when I was putting on the new bed, I had it parked like that to oil the underside, it hasn't changed any.

Worth about $2k to me but I'm a cheap ba$t@rd looking for a crewcab to cut up to make an extended cab crew cab.

Jokes aside... would bring $6-$8k around here, $10k if you're lucky.

4wd? What options?

2wd XL's like that are plentiful here, the SB 4wd with options can go over 10K, while a rusty extended cab with full options is a hard sell at 5K, and even 4's don't move quick.

Rusty and a hundred K more than mine - $2 grand less.

800 more: 22 Ford F35 Crew Lariet ( 7.3 Dsl )

2 Ford F35 Crew Cab 4x4- 7.3L DIESEL! Runs Great!

I got the 2 orings I need for the EBPV solenoid in the mail today. My hat is off to Bob at dieselorings.com. Not ordering the orings was my oversight, but he sent them to me free of charge. He is a great guy to deal with, and also very knowledgeable about the 7.3's. I spoke to him at great lengths a little over a year ago when I was dealing with the '00/'03 motor install for my friend.

With any luck I'll get something accomplished on this over the weekend.
