We can all learn from the mistakes described in these reports.

I found it interesting that a high percentage of the MN ones were simply titled "Farmer Dies After Being Run Over By Tractor He Was Driving", or "Farmer Dies After Tractor He Was Driving Rolled Over on Him".

Also very informative was the high number of "Electrician Dies from Electrocution." reports.

I randomly picked one of the farm accident reports and read it - "A local welder had modified the ROPS at the victim's request". Henro are you reading this? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif The victim died during a rollover when his head was crushed between the ground and the ROPS.

There are local welders then there are local welders.
Good grief, I'm surprised there are any farmers left, grain and manure seem to be big killers as well as heavy equipment. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

DId anyone else notice that most of the deaths are roll overs, electricity related or manure related. More from manure and roll overs than anything else.

If you look at the industrial accidents, there are also a very high proportion of "Forklift tipped over".

Another intersting catagory is "Fell from pallet or load being lifted by forklift".

My dad used to be a workers-compensation plaintiff's lawyer. He used to describe some of his cases at the dinner table. One I remember was of a guy who had a job accident that scarred the inside of his lungs. He had to have oxygen all the time, and the bottles then were bigger (1950s). He came back for a visit to his buddies at the shipyard, and wanted to get up where they were on the scaffolding. He convinced a guy to hoist him up on the forklift about 15' up, when he fell off trying to get onto the staging with his tank. The fall broke his back (which had been fine) and the tank neck, and started a fire. Don't know whether he was able to collect...
People sure will do stuff others shake their heads at.
