I did not get an estimate up front. There were no local hydraulic guys in the phone book (closest was over an hour away) and I didn't want to spend the time looking for them (I'm sure they're out there, I live near a good sized town). My wife picked the cylinder up for me and all I saw on the bill was the charge for labor and parts, no indication of what they did.

We have all run in to that kind of situation. It's hard to argue with someone after the fact, and they have your money, unless you use the credit card, and then you can refute the charges. They will than have to justify the charges to the Credit Card company. Perhaps call the BBB and see if they have a habit of running up the tab.

It's not that outrageous and I'm not worked up about it enough to do anything other than gripe on the internet ;)

Next time I'll work harder to find a different alternative.

Does seem a bit much to just replace the o-rings. Did you get an estimate up front. Did they indicate that they did anything other then replace the seals? They may have a minimum charg, but it still seems execssive.

Andy, don't want to hear anything on my reply. I know, freedom of speech.

J_J, life stinks, deal with it. And, I don't take requests.

That is not a bad price. Not a deal, but to take it apart, order parts, then reassemble, not a bad price.

If you go to a Doctor:
1. You pay an outragious price. see him maybe 5 min.
2. He writes a prescription and says if it doesn't work come back next week.
3. Your probably gonna have to go back at least once more if the problem isn't serious.(and pay again)
4. No Gurantee and you know that.

If you go to a Mechanic:
1. He is going to spend the time needed to find out what you really need.
2. He is probably going to get dirty fixing the problem.
3. He is going to do the best he can to fix the problem so you don't have to come back .
4. If come back for the same problem it comes out of his pocket.
5. He is going to give you a Warranty and you expect one.

When put into perspective going to a Mechanic is the most bang for your
money.
