I'd use it again. I have a lot of fencing to do. Most of the time I will use barbed wire to stretch my line, but there are a few areas that I would like to use string to set my line posts, then remove the string until I'm ready to set my t posts, and then remove it and not have to worry about tripping, or driving over the barbed wire until I'm ready to install the fencing.

Is this to re-use the twine, or just collect it for disposal?

Maybe hammer a piece of 1.5" PVC pipe onto the tractor's PTO? :D
I like that idea.
Add a couple floor flanges to it & you have a good real.
Put a smaller pipe through it to unwind for next project.

If anyone has seen pavers use a string line that’s the stuff to get. I don’t know what it is but it’s very strong.

It’s hard to pull a string tight enough on a long distance. Wind will blow it.

Offset the line into clear space. Evening. Observer with high power flashlight (or maybe a laser) at one pin. Good driveway reflector at the other pin. Person in the center moves sideways with a vertical 2x4 until reflection is blocked. Mark the spot. Reverse offset distance to find your view-blocked line.

Light beams resist wind better than string or wire.

Yes, I could go 25 feet into my neighbors land and pull the wire there, then measure from the wire to my property line. That might work!!!!
Just wondering if you ever figured this out?

I haven't done anything. My bigger project for the year is to add on a 3 car garage to my house. I've been taking out trees and moving dirt for that, but also fixing the backhoe and dealing with the weather has kept me away from the fenceline. My wife has had knee issues for years, but 3 weeks ago, she was going to open the door and our big male dog came through the doggy door and slammed into her knee, which crippled her. She had knee replacement surgery on Friday the 4th, and that's taking up a lot of time too. The fence is something that I want to get done, but I'm only working on it when I have a little extra time and the ground isn't too muddy.

Back in 1982 I fenced my 80 acres. 1320x2640. I had survey markers on three of the four corners. The forth corner is, smack dab, in the middle of a large lake.

Used the back sighting method and got the fence line in - +/- a foot or so. Close enough for anybody who might be concerned.

Eddie, you might find the USGS National Map useful for determining terrain and visualizing Plans. I took the liberty of overlaying your lines over a couple of screen grabs from the map. One is the stretched Hillshade and contour lines that are a product of drone Lidar. The second is an aerial with the auto contour lines included. You can move layers up and down and change opacity. There is also a measuring tool as well as determining elevation profiles, spot elevation, wetlands, etc. In our area of NY the hillshade shows small trenches and differences in elevation very accurately base on my observations. I did note the wetlands and hydrography in our area is offset a few yards from the terrain captured by the Lidar.

Eddie,

Did you ever figure out a method to layout the line?
