Here in fla. we do use telephone poles, but ya better brace well if you dont you will just pull your corner over a few inches. A fence is only as good as its corners and braces.

What size poles, and how deep? I have been using 16"-18" poles 48" deep, only back fill with dirt. Have had no movement that I can tell. Fences are all straight and tight. Just goes to show ya how much circumstances dictate what needs to be done.

I will definitely post a thread once I start on it. I am excited to get going with it.

As to the poster who used old telephone poles: I have done that in the past. I bought some for $10 each, cut them up, sunk them 48" deep, and braces with 2.5" pipe. Tough posts, and last quite a while.

I will be using Red Brand for sure, not the Keystone. I have looked into high tensile, but I have made the decision to use the field fence.

I agree with you that a field fence is a good idea. Did you know that there is also a high tensile field fence. It also allows you to reduce the number of fence post you need to one every 16 to 20 feet. Solidlock is one brand that I have used and liked. The cows could lean against it and it would spring back when they moved on.
