There should be a mechanical lock for the rear caster assembly to keep it in a in line position if you need to reverse direction immediately after driving forward in soft terrain.

Ok, yeah I see the notch where that would go, but the pin that would go there is missing. Shouldn't be difficult to make a new one.

IIRC it was a cable operated pin that locked in an upright (free to swivel) or horizontal position (caster locked in straight position.)

Update: it has made the transition from "dragger" to "roller." I disconnected the lines from the Eaton pumps to the hub motors and connected them in loops with crow's foot connectors. I realize these aren't rated for hydraulic system pressures but it's just temporary so it can be rolled around. 3 out of 4 tires were off the rim so I had to employ ye olde "spray something explosive inside and then explode it" trick times 3. After that I was able to easily roll it from the front of my shop where it was negatively impacting the value of my favorite neighbors' house that he's trying to sell, and into my tractor port where I can work on it out of the soul-sucking Texas sun.

Good news:
I only lost half of one eyebrow.
The hub motors spun very freely once suction/discharge hoses were looped.

Bad news:
There was entrained water in the fluid found in the lines of both motors.

Mediocre news:
The watery fluid didn't seem entirely rusty.

I know explosive fumes are F-U-N!

However, someone taught me a trick using a ratchet strap around the circumference of the tire, tighten it up real good, and it usually seats the bead enough to fill the tire with an air chuck.... but what fun is that? :confused3:

:)

Any progress?

No sir, nothing to report. I haven't had time for projects lately; been trying to make money. I picked up this forklift during what I thought was a lull in business but it turned out to be an outright vanishing of all business. Had to put on the salesman hat, as much as I hate to. Making cold calls...ugh.

Anybody in here in Texas and having trouble with automated machinery? I'm a self employed Controls Specialist. I design, build, and troubleshoot control systems; PLCs, VFDs, servo/motion control, CNCs, etc. Need work. I'll give a special TBN discount.
